Thanks for the suggestions, all.  This just gets weirder.  I logged on as administrator and many of my plugs showed up, but a couple of things are going on now:
  • TH3 is showing an error: "TH3 cannot be loaded because this is version 3.0.4, while the latest version installed on your system is 3.3.0. Run the TH3 3.3.0 installer to fix the problem."  Strange, because the latest version for download on Overloud.com is 3.0.0.
  • VST scan no longer appears.  When I go to Plugin Manager (I have two links for it under Utilities?!) and try to start a scan there, it says a scan is already underway and to wait until it's finished to start another.  When I click Scan in the VST Settings page in Preferences, nothing happens, where I'd usually see the scan happening.  I haven't seen it since following the instructions from the guy at Waves.
  • Still no Waves plugins showing up.  Wish I'd never followed the instructions on their page.  Silly me.

My suggestion is before you install anything Waves, create a restore point in Windows. Check your system restore and see if one is there.

Thanks again for the suggestions.  Scanner was hung, Scook, and I followed your steps.  Freed up the scan to find my updated TH3 file - seems the software version and file names might have version control issues, but it updated and installed.  Kite, great suggestion to create a restore point.  That's next.  Not quite a wrap as Waves is still misbehaving, but progress made.

Cheers.

The only problem I've ever had with Waves VST scans is if your license isn't active (you don't have the USB key in or you have a cloud license but no internet etc). Their support is generally quick and good while you have WUP. I'd definitely contact them again and tell them your experience.

Yeah, I sent another note to the techie last night so I hope there's a response when I'm done punching the clock today. That means "after work" for anyone under the age of....?

OT...

Is it just me or does it seem like a really dumb idea to name computer program type stuff things like "VIRUS" or "INFECTED" and so forth?

The names aren't cool enough to warrant the potential confusion to the user and/or AV software.

Or to me! LOL
