I finally got Addictive drums downloaded and installed, but I'm afraid I've misunderstood something important. Is this app all about loading and mixing together pre-recorded loops?

I was hoping it offered a cool way of building my own patterns.

Can anyone tell me if that's all there is to Addictive drums?

It comes with loops but those are midi based. You can use them as is, adapt them, or record your own on a midi track {or simple instrument track) in Sonar.

I have multiple drum synths, but every one of them, AD 2 included, lets you load up a kit, or make a custom one, and then create your own patterns by recording midi data on a midi track in Sonar.

I never ever never use pre-constructed drum loops for my own compositions, because I like to create my own rhythms, and AD 2 certainly lets you do your own stuff too, just like all the other drum synths.

Just work with it at the kit level, rather than loading up any pre-existing patterns/loops.

its very similar to the way Session Drummer 3 works with the exception it has many more options and better sounds.
If you have never created your own drums beats before using the Piano Roll View or Step Sequencer watch this video:

Wow. Thank you all for the videos and thoughts, and THE MANUAL!!

Yeah. Seeing the manual helps a lot. Don't know why I haven't seen it, unless with all the downloads I've done recently it got lost in the shuffle.

I used to do drums with the step sequencer and Session Drummer 2, But hoped this would be better. I will check again to see how many actual drum sounds came in the download.

Thank you for the suggestions.

This is better because it comes with a large amount of live recorded adjustable loops. Also it sounds a lot better than Session Drummer. But yes, you will still have to use the standard Sonar tools to really roll your own beats.
