When I logged in just now I noticed the little W10 icon in the task bar had disappeared, having been put there by MSoft a few weeks ago. Don't they want me to try it now??

On a more practical note, is there any reason at all why I should put W10 on my DAW PC?

I'm going to try it out on my laptop before I let it anywhere near either of my 2 main systems.

Me too Jonesey. Plus, I have just completed another full system, all disks backup on Acronis True Image and created an up to date rescue media DVD just in case !

the full version was released Tuesday 7.27.15, so they are no longer offering it for free.  you should have gotten it before Tuesday if you wanted it.

I am not interested myself.  I'm still on win7x64 and perfectly happy for now.

I read an article on Flipboard this morning that says if you signed up for Win 10 it's been downloading to your PC for a few days or weeks now. 6GB in total! No wonder they kept quiet! I spose it's ready to take over the world and the missing icon is the first wave...

Where did you read that?
I don't think you have to reserve anything to get it for free, you just have to install it with 12 months. If you have't reserved you probably need to wait longer (big deal I suggest people wait at least 6 months for it to stabilize anyway). How this procedure will work TBC.

I stand corrected.

I thought the same as you Doc. As long as you upgrade in the first year, your good to go. Looks like we are right.

I looked at the link Kevo posted and it says:

"If you have reserved, we’ll notify you when your upgrade is ready. You have until July 29, 2016 to take advantage of this free upgrade offer. Once you upgrade, you’ll have Windows 10 for free on that device."

I have my music PC off-line. My plan was to upgrade that machine when the smoke cleared. I am trying to find out if I can do it off-line.

Yes, you can download an ISO image to create your own install disk(s)
