I have my music PC off-line. My plan was to upgrade that machine when the smoke cleared. I am trying to find out if I can do it off-line.

Yes, you can download an ISO image to create your own install disk(s)

Thanks for that Karyn. The guy on the MS support phone told me I had to have my PC online! Goes to show you what those guys know. I know they are reading off a screen, but the people that put the program together to help them help us.....leaves a lot to be desired.
 
Karyn do you know if I have to reserve a copy? Or if I just go and put in my Win7Pro serial number and get the ISO?

I received an email because I had signed up for the insiders program but never actually participated. The email had a link where I could download an ISO or direct to USB stick.

The ISO was about 1.5 gig.

You'll need the serial number for the Windows that you're upgrading from.

Here's the download link if you have a genuine version of Win 7/8. You'll need the serial number of the version from which you're upgrading.

It's still not altogether clear to me when upgrading with a clean install, whether you can use your windows 7/8 key or not. The FAQ is particularly unclear. From what I've read you must upgrade over existing install first to get the key.

You need to provide your win 7 or 8 key not long after the start of the installation process to ensure you have a genuine version from which to install.

So it seems you don't even have to have that version installed on your PC as long as you can provide that all important 25 digit code.

My icon disappeared for a couple days and then returned all by itself yesterday.  I've got no clue why it disappeared and no clue why it came back.
 
Maybe it just went out for a beer....

Ignore the icon.  Ignore the email that you got today saying it may be weeks before they push it to you.  Download it manually and install it today.
