There is a similar poll over at my favourite Ex SONAR Users Forum and, at this moment in time, Studio One has 47% of the vote, Cubase 20% and Reaper at 12%

A much smaller sample but at least the results are trustworthy, in my opinion.

What would be interesting, though, is how the same poll would fare in another six to twelve months time as peeps really get to grips with their DAW of choice...

That makes the most sense of it all, It's really to soon. How on earth does anyone know if someting new is going to pan out there is bound to be niggles here and there.

The standards are quite high these day's and grumble factor of carping and nitpicking way up. People expect and want a DAW to be everything even if can't in reality. Not saying any of that is not legit just more dissatisfaction that it didn't work as advertised.....perfectly.

I suspect Studio One will have some of those issues with some but only time would have told, or will tell, when it's time. You don't need an Internet poll to figure that out, it kinda makes it's presence known when the dissatisfied start too invade the forum...or any forum for that matter.

Yeah - I think Andy is onto something. Wait until the dust settles and the honeymoon is over:)

The results of the poll - and this is not anyone's fault - are probably also affected by the timing of crossgrade offers.  Some competing DAWS were quicker to offer the deals.  I'm using Mixcraft, for example, and it was about a week late getting its crossgrade purchase up and running, but Studio One was available before the poll started.

You claim to be unbiased, yet simultaneously conclude cheating likely occured because results because the choice you did not favor got the most votes? Ummm ok. Does it make a difference which is most popular in this forum?

I have given reasons why I suspect there could have been a bot or some kind of rigging. The pattern (which I can see in the admin) and the fact that the forum thread views were not incrementing when there were surges of all S1 votes made me suspicious and would have done regardless of which DAW was effected - I own 6 of the DAWs on the list including Studio One. I thought it best to be honest and divulge my suspicions with the results in this thread. It would have been misleading if I hadn't have said anything.

If I was biased I could have fabricated whatever result I wanted. I didn't. I published the results as they are and stated that rigged or not S1 came out as the most popular choice. What possible reason would I have to be biased anyway? It's just a poll to see which DAWs Sonar users are buying into at this moment in time.

OK for those accusing me of being biased or thinking that my suspicions of DAW vote rigging are a sign of my insanity etc. Here is an image clipped from the graph of poll results during one of the voting patterns that made me suspicious. At the top and the bottom, you see sections of the standard voting pattern which is representative of what the pattern was usually like. Inbetween those you see an unbroken line of loads of S1 votes that come in in a short period during which the view counter on the poll forum thread hardly increases. A similar pattern occurred at the same time of day over a few days during the 12 days of polling.

I think any sensible person would become a tad suspicious when faced with these facts. This is why I suggested that S1 is the most popular choice even if the suspicious votes are removed, however, the margin of its popularity i.e. the number of votes in my view, couldn't be depended on due to the facts I have presented here.

This will happen everytime with Internet polls, they can't be relied on for sampling of any kind and that right there is the reason for debate.

Is it helpful? Maybe for some who rely on what they think is the "popular" choice. It really isn't for those who know what they need and whether it fits their workflow.

That is the reasons for demoing first and buy later, even with a tempting crossgrade sale. Not saying it is not the right thing to pick up a bargain but a poll should be last thing to consider in my opinion when it comes to whether or not one makes the best choice considering the ways the poll can be manipulated.

Even if it's for "s#!ts and giggles" the impression outlasts the intention.

I never even considered that anyone would view the poll results in order to make a decision as to what DAW to buy next. I can't imagine many would do that. Its purpose was really just to see which way people were going post-Sonar/Cakewalk as a kind of interesting and fun distraction from the usual stuff.

I wrote ""popular" choice" past tense meaning already bought.Sorry for the confusion. Some like to think they make the right choice and will defend that in no uncertain terms.

So even if you are just having fun as you say it or explain away why the data suggests scrutiny some may chime in otherwise(me included).

I think at this point it is better to stop beatin' a dead horse and bow out in grace and allow your thread to continue unimpeded by my ramblings.

Good music to all(yourself included) whatever choice they make may it be what works for ya when Sonar ceases to work all together.

I ended up going for Mixcraft on 12/31, but didn't participate in the poll.

I had a trial of Cubase Elements 9.5, which I really liked because of the Chord Track, but I would have preferred the full blown Cubase, but couldn't justify the price, and Elements will remain $99, so I may pick that up.

For now, it will be Mixcraft and Reaper for me. Sure wish Reaper had pitch markers, or better yet, a chord track.
