Having tried out quite a few DAWs (SO3, Reaper, Samplitude X3 Pro, Mixcraft) I've got to say that Mixcraft for me was the only one I felt comfortable with from the start, and fitted in well with my existing workflow. In many cases Mixcraft was actually easier and quicker to use than SPLAT (e.g. Melodyne integration, Send and Sub-mix busses).
I felt I did have to get a paint program out and replace the faux wood sides of the console view with something less loud and tacky though, as it was annoying the hell out of me! I'm not usually so superficial, but I do most of my music later on in the evening, and the bright faux wood was just too loud for my tired eyes.
If I had to learn a new DAW from scratch I'd probably go for Reaper, followed by SO3.
However, none of them were SPLAT so I'm sticking with SPLAT for now... I've got my backup DAWs should I need them.
