  • Is there a way to tell Sonar to never load a device? [SOLVED] (p.2)

I did the system and driver updates, as well as the Aud.ini process but no joy.  I'll just live with it.  There are far worse things to worry about.  Anyway, I definitely appreciate the assistance, Craig.

I'd like to toss in a welcome back, as well.  :)

I was going to suggest what Craig had already typed in as option 3 from his list - sorry I don't know of another way to do that.  I wonder WHY that being present kills Sonar.

I wonder if the issue could be the dreaded MIDI Port Limit...not sure that was fixed until Windows 10. When I mention it, most people say "I don't have that many MIDI devices connected, can't be that." But, Windows remembers every device you've ever plugged in and reserves a place for all of them. The only way to see the hidden devices in Sound, Video, and Game controllers is running a batch file--just checking "show hidden devices" doesn't show the "ghost" devices. There are more details here. Might be worth one last try.

As you might remember, I''m reluctant to dive too deep into trouble shooting because I've had a lot of issues with Sonar in the past and it has usually lead down to the dreaded "rabbit hole".  All these responses were good and started me actually thinking about the problem and I decided "what the heck", it would be nice if I didn't have worry about this.  So, I decided to put on my troubleshooters hat and just give it a go.  Basic stuff, square one, the first thing I should try is a different USB hub.  Done.  Problem solved.  It turns out it was the well known USB 3 ports not really downward compatible issue.  Moved the GT-100 to a real USB 2 port and now I can even use it as an audio device in Sonar.  Craig even mentioned this earlier in the thread.

Thanks to Craig and Bob for the kick in the pants that got to work the problem.  Maybe I'll mix some stuff in Platinum and check out the new features.  I'm way behind n Sonar Platinum since my use has been limited and I've probably forgotten a lot and have many new things to learn.

Sometimes it's the simple stuff that gets you.

Other things to try if the above doesn't work:

1. Apply compatibility mode to the drivers. Even if you're on, say, 8.1 and they were working in 8.1 before, set them to 7.

2. Fall back to the previous driver version.

3. Reset the system to a previous date if you've made recent system changes or installed new software. Maybe there's a conflict.
