I have an issue going on.  I was working on a project and added a virtual instrument which is my Alesis Crimson Mesh kit drums.  I played drums and everything is fine.  I hit the drum and immediately hear the drum effect I've chosen using EZdrummer sets.  I then wanted to do another song and started a new project.  Exact same settings and now there is latency when I strike the drum at about a second or two behind.  I've gone back and forth between both projects to see what settings could be different and I can't find anything!  What could be causing this latency when the other track works fine.  I open the ezdrummer track on the first song that is working and hit my drum kit and the midi drum sound is immediate.  I am at a complete loss right now and would appreciate any help.

Normally, unexpected latency in a particular project would be due to some pluging using a lookahead buffer that induces automatic plugin delay compensation, but not if the latency is more than a small fraction of a second. Latency that high would make me suspect a driver probelm... but not if it's only one project. 
 
Are you sure the latency is really more than a second? If you hit the PDC (Override) or FX Bypass buttons in the Mix module, does it help?
 
Also, it's a little confusing that you refer to the Alesis kit as a 'virtual instrument'. The Alesis kit is a MIDI controller with combined hardware sound module and MIDI interface that I gather you're using only send MIDI to EZdrummer which is the virtual instrument. Are you connecting the Alesis MIDI output by the USB port or by the DIN connector to another interface?

Thanks for the input, by pressing the bypass effects that has solved the latency!  I had applied effects on the vocal and guitar scratch track and now it works flawlessly!  Thank you!  I am connecting midi out from my Alesis Crimson Mesh kit to midi in on my M-Audio M Track 2x2M.  Then for playing the drums I add a track by right clicking in the work area selecting "insert instrument" and then choose ezdrummer as my drum effects.

Cool. Glad to help. Ideally you should try to avoid using Mastering FX (e.g. Convolution Reverbs, Cakewalk's Linear Phase EQ and Multiband Compressor) while still tracking. As a drummer, you're also likely to be using Transient Shaper which also induces PDC.
 
The PDC button in the Mix module can be used to temporarily override delay compensation on input monitored audio tracks (including synth tracks) to allow tracking a new part without the added latency, so long as the PDC-inducing plugin isn't on the track you're recording.

I have another issue now with the midi drums.  I am playing triplets on the hi hat and for some reason sometimes some of them are missing when I know the are there.  I heard them when I was playing but on playback they are not playing all of them.  Do you have any advice for this?

Try increasing the "Prepare Using nnn Millisecond Buffers" value in Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording from 250 to 500 or 750.

I'm going to ask Congress to pass a law that whenever someone inserts a plug-in with massive amounts of lookahead, a little pop-up says "Yo! Are you willing to have lots of latency?"
