Hi there, (splat 10.16)
PRV always seems to open with the controller pane hidden.
OK. No big deal although it would be great if it would remember where it was when I saved the project,
"without having to lock a Screenset." I actually don't even know if that would do it.

So ... it's hidden ...
SHFT+C (sometimes needed to do 2 times) brings it up, (but sometimes it doesn't work)
and as long as I don't have a midi track selected from the list on the right side
SHFT+C seems to (most of the time) once again, hide the controller pane
"without" spewing velocity bars into the notes pane.
So, when the velocities are spewed into the note pane I can select a track that has no content in that part of the song
or .....
SHFT+C again and then use the mouse (OMG banging on logs ... !?!?!?) to drag it to the bottom ... too tedious.
Having to reach up with the mouse and drag it down to the bottom is time consuming
and a speed bump in the work flow in my opinion.

Platinum has evolved a bit since X3 and it's better in splat for sure,
but it still seems to be an incomplete bit of programming.
There's no way to use a hot key to consistently show/hide the controller pane
without getting the velocity drawn for the active track in the note pane.

I think it would be great if this issue was brought up to speed.

I'd love it if there were consistent reliable hot keys
something like
SHFT+C = Show/Hide Controller Pane
CTRL+SHFT+C = Show/Hide Velocities drawn in the notes pane ... or some logical combination.

Please ... someone tell me if I'm misssing something here?

I looked for this about a week ago and couldn't find it anywhere. thanks for the heads up.
I  too wish there were more shortcuts for PRV usage. There probably is, I just haven't seen them.
 
The thing that drives me crazy is losing focus by clicking in the PRV Track pane.
When you click on a Lock, Mute, Solo button ( Name bar ) The mouse loses focus and needs to be clicked again in the PRV because the focus shifts to the Track pane.

You could bind SHIFT+C to "Use Controller Pane"
and
CTRL+SHift+C to "Notes | Show Velocity"
 
both located at Keybindings>Piano Roll View.
 
If you don't have "Show Velocity on Active Track only" selected (PRV>Notes),
you have to hit CTRL+Shift+C (or any other keybinding) twice to hide the velocity bars after SHIFT+C.
 
Edit: Doesn't matter, you always have to hit the keybinding twice to hide velocity bars.

Another handy key binding I use a lot is ALT-P to bring up the track selector (Pick Tracks) dialog in the PRV. That's not a standard shortcut, but ALT-P isn't used for anything else so it's available for binding.
 
On that topic, but off the original one, does anyone know why the PRV track picker dialog lists audio tracks and not just MIDI tracks? What's the point of selecting an audio track in the PRV, other than being an annoyance when you do it unintentionally?

I can't say for certain but it may be related to what happens to instrument tracks in the Console View when MIDI strips are not displayed. IOW it is a byproduct of the instrument track implementation.

I'll buy that explanation: it can't differentiate between an instrument track and a MIDI-audio pair, and therefore cannot distinguish an audio track from a MIDI track. Seems weak, though. Surely each track has flags that indicate its type. Doesn't matter. I'll assume it's a permanent restriction and keep on naming my tracks "Piano MIDI" and "Piano AUDIO" for clarity.

ALT+C and SHFT+C work exactly the same in this situation.
I just checked it, by trying it in Sonar.
I don't suspect the help file will be totally up to date or accurate.

Me too.
That should be fixed and allowed to be used as CTRL+TAB the way most software works for flipping through open tabs.

Update:
Focus on the Track list or Notes Pain in PRV:

When focused on the Notes Pane in PRV, CTRL+TAB does work and moves the focus to the Track list at the right,
however it doesn't work to bring the focus back to the notes pane.
So it seems it's *partially completed* but needs to be fully implimented.

When focused in the notes pane SHFT+C *and* ALT+C will show/hide the controller pane,
but when focused in the Track view at the right SHFT+C will show/hide the main control bar at the top
and ALT+C does nothing.
This all seems like old code that hasn't been looked at since the pre "X" days.

"ALT+P" Seems to be a default Windows binding to open the Process menu at the top.
I'd not want to loose that.

"Audio tracks in PRV ... annoyance" Agreed totally ... as scook said "byproduct" but I'd call it sloppy programming that should be cleaned up.
