@DoktorAvalanche - Thanks for the update from the horses mouth! I don't suppose they mentioned what might have changed? I don't assume any drivers will work on any OS.

Nope... They were very mysterious... Maybe they've just started looking into it as 3.6 has only just been released...
I suspect they are only going to start looking at it once they get the RTM. Many manufacturers have that policy (only a few early birds catch the worm I notice).

Yes, it's well known that the early OS worm can have sharp teeth. Most of the vendors I've seen are saying the same thing. On the other hand, all of the software I've installed on 10 hasn't even required compatibility settings changes to install and function properly, possible because 10's OS version API seems to report itself as 8.1. This bodes well for folks who want to upgrade and don't want to wait for official drivers (like me.)

Microsoft just updated their update on the Windows Insider policy with respect to licensing. The only real clarification here is that they explicitly state that once you opt out of the program, you have to qualify for the free upgrade offer or pay for a license.

“I want to continue as a Windows Insider!” If you want to continue as a Windows Insider past 7/29 there is nothing you need to do. You’re already opted in and receiving builds in the Fast or Slow ring depending upon your selection. This is prerelease software and is activated with a prerelease key. Each individual build will expire after a time, but you’ll continue to receive new builds so by the time an older prerelease build expires you’ll have received a new one. Since we’re continuing the Windows Insider Program you’ll be able to continue receiving builds and those builds will continue to be activated under the terms of the Windows Insider Program. We provide ISOs for these builds for recovery from any significant problems, but they are still pre-release software. As part of the program we’ll upgrade Insiders to what is for all intents and purposes the same build as what other customers will get on 7/29, but that will be just another build for Insiders, and those who stay in the program will simply get the next build after as well.

“I want to opt out of the Windows Insider Program on 7/29.” If you decide to opt-out of the program and upgrade to the 7/29 build you will be subject to exactly the same terms and conditions that govern the offer* that was extended to all Genuine Windows 7 and 8.1 customers. This is not a path to attain a license for Windows XP or Windows Vista systems. If your system upgraded from a Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license it will remain activated, but if not, you will be required to roll back to your previous OS version or acquire a new Windows 10 license. If you do not roll back or acquire a new license the build will eventually expire.

So it's not Windows 10 for free.  It's continuing access to beta versions.

I can't run my studio on beta versions...

Well, it is Windows 10 for free, right? And you can opt out of updates and stay on a specific build if that's what you want to do, but that's not really the point of the program. But to your point, yeah, I wouldn't recommend anyone bind Insider program builds to a machine that they depend on for a stable DAW, those folks just aren't prepared to spit in the face of death.

you can opt out of updates and stay on a specific build if that's what you want to do,

But if you do your authorization code will expire,  so no free Win 10.

Oh yes, that's right.

Downloading build 10159 right now...

I've been running Platinum, PT 12 (now PT12.1), S1-3, and a lot of others without issue...

Me too, and it's out today after releasing 10158 yesterday. Microsoft's getting as good as Cakewalk!

To all insiders, build 10158 is an incredible build. Most of the debug code has been removed and it's extremely fast, smooth and responsive and there's a great deal of polish that's been applied since 10130, my most recent experience. Sonar and my venerable 10 year old MOTU 8pre have been functioning flawlessly. I'm really beginning to like Windows 10 quite a lot. Now some of the utility apps are kind of lame and dumbed down (Mail, you know who I'm talking about!) but its a great build overall. Even the new browser, Microsoft Edge works great and I am a skeptic on that thing.

So now I'm installing 10159 and hope to have just as sunny a report as I did for 10158. The saga continues.
