Is anyone here using this control surface with SONAR?
http://www.slatemt.com/products/raven-mti/

If so how well does it work?
Thanks!!

Sonar is not listed as one of the supported DAWS, on their website.

Yeah, I noticed that after posting this thread. Too bad cause I would definitely consider purchasing one if it supported SONAR.

It would be NICE if the bakers worked with Slate to get Sonar supported.... looks awesome!

The good news is that 999.00 would probably get you a nice touchscreen monitor, that would work with Sonar, if it's the touchscreen capability that you are interested in.   I've seen a few threads on the forum from people using touchscreen monitors with Sonar.   Possibly even the Slate monitor would work with Sonar, it's just not yet supported.

It looks questionably expensive... so I have tried to understand what it is. Anyone is welcome to prove me wrong, but from what I could find:
1) good quality big monitor (small update time) with good quality multi-touch (may be with special software for that multi-touch to make it more "smooth" that build-in Windows driver, but that is unclear)
2) nice graphic, well done reaction on operating it with fingers
3) control surface plug-ins for supported DAW, with relatively sophisticated logic

So:
a) since Sonar support multi-touch internally, benefits for mixing are questionable
b) it is still "a control surface", so it can only display/operate what DAW Control Surface API provides

My conclusion: rather questionable solution for Sonar vs Sonar itself.

Dave is correct.  Just buy a multi touch monitor and take the base off.  It works similarly, I've done it.  For some reason though, I didn't like it.  I need 3 d control surface.  Maybe it's just my eyes being OLD, but I prefer the x touch.

I've collaborated in a few big $ studios where they had them (sometimes several) and I've never seen the engineer actually use them. When I asked how they felt about them the answer was invariably "meh..."
A thousand bucks can get you a lot of nice stuff.

I spent some time looking at this and wondering what it offered a "conventional" multi-touch monitor doesn't as well.

My conclusion is that it basically doesn't offer any advantages at all. Why have, for example, the console view presented on a touch-screen controller application (plus iLok) when you can display the console view on a touch screen for less money and have better future-proofing with iLok and no third party controller application involved?

I suppose it depends on how well the "normal" DAW console is optimized for touch. Nevertheless, like I said, everyone I spoke to who had one got it because it seemed a great idea but didn't actually use it.
