Hey folks,
we have just published a first article that describe similarities and differences between Sonar and Cubase.
We hope this information will provide a smooth transition for Sonar customers considering Cubase to be their new DAW.
We might have another one ready for tomorrow looking at the MIDI side of things.

Hey folks.
we have uploaded new content.
In todays article we are looking at: "Setting up MIDI preferences", "Setting up control surface", "MIDI editors" and the like.

Of course the landing page is also still available

Seems the Cubase guys like Sonar's Tungsten theme.

No mention of Instrument Definitions but you can write your own or here's a utility that can convert Sonar .ins files to Cubase formatted .txt files, tho it may not work for some hardware. From there just follow the instructions here.

My synth has 10 banks of 10 voices each arranged in random order. This utility rearranged them by instrument

Cubase "patchname" files are found in the C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase\Scripts\patchnames folder.

C:\ Program Folders\Steinberg\Cubase\Scripts\patchnames folder seems to be a dummy folder as nothing you put there shows up in Cubase.

Maybe that's where Cubase gets a fresh copy of the patch list when a new user on the machine starts using Cubase.

Hey everyone,
As announced, here is our third article for Sonar users. This article puts focus on what is exclusive available in Cubase and has no equivalent in Sonar.

Might be worthwhile reading.

Hi Frank

What baffles me Is that there Is 50% off for Sonar users and the price is £291 for code version and £308 for the box version
Over here In the UK Cubase pro 9.5 is £488, so 50% should be £244 If the maths are correct.
For anyone here In UK ABSOLUTE MUSIC are doing the crossover for £249 Boxed version .So get over there quick sharp If you want a deal.
Got mine Saturday.
Sonar users may as well look to the future and get on Cubase as that Is the best solution.
Sonar will go down with future updates and It is IMO cut losses and go for It
No pockets In shroulds!!!
I just want Lp EQ and Multiband unlocked as for the rest not worried.

Thank you @Frank-US. These are great articles. I transitioned to Cubase and essentially figured the same things out with a bit of googling and the excellent manual.

Another wonderful feature in Cubase is the expression maps combined with the transpose track: The combo makes it trivial to transpose keyswitched instruments.

I still think that mouse-based midi-editing takes more clicks in Cubase than it does in Sonar. Not sure why, other than Cubase seem to not hold onto a selected notes to the same extent Sonar does. I often find that I need to re-select a note, whereas in Sonar that was never the case.
