Hello. Does anyone out there in Sonar land have any experience using the Arturia Keylab 88-Key with Sonar. Does it work well? Pros/cons?

I'm currently using the un-weighted Roland A-800Pro, which has a 'controller/surface' profile set up in Sonar. I'm not sure the Arturia has this for Sonar...or vice-versa.

Thanks in advance.

It probably doesn't have a "designer" ACT surface like the A-800 but the plain ACT surface works well with just about any controller.

Support for APro is not just a 'profile', it is a separate program (plug-in) written for that particular controller. Arturia has no such plug-in. Using "Generic" plug-ins (you will most probably need both, see chapter 40 in the SONAR reference guide) you can get it work more or less ok. But it will take some time to (understand how to and ) configure the board and plug-ins. The integration level still is not going to be on A-Pro level (ACT MIDI support 9 buttons, 8 sliders and 8 encoders, Generic Surface support 12 ACT parameters only and it does not work with buses, you can imagine that even combination is going to be full of compromises with 9 sliders / 10 encoders board).

There is my alternative to that plug-ins. With some patience you can make a preset which will work with Arturia on the same (or better) integration level as APro. But so far, no one had that patience even with smaller boards

Thanks guys. Yes, azslow3 I've had a look at yours and it's a bit intimidating.

I was hoping to get some feedback from Sonar users who actually using this midi-keyboard. Obviously from what you are saying re its integration with Sonar, it's not going to be straight forward. Perhaps the Roland A-88 Weighted 88-Key Midi Keyboard Controller will be a better option, but it appears to have limited sliders/dials for similar interaction like the the A-800Pro.

Why not use the A800 for its integration with Sonar and use an 88 note keyboard for actual play as a MIDI controller.

Hey, Alan...

I would appreciate you reporting back on what you think of the KeyLab.  My old MAudio Keystation Pro 88 has been very good to me over the years and the nektar lx61 has a good Sonar template but I'm looking for another weighted action 88er as an MAudio key has failed and the fix doesn't excite me...

No worries Dana...have to buy it first and I was hoping to get some feedback about it on the forum before shelling out $. Sorry to hear about the MAudio :(
