This is a program bug (stack overrun), and can't be resolved by user action such as deleting aud.ini. We'll have to be patient and wait for a fix. I'm sure somebody is furiously working on it this morning.

Words of wisdom from bitflipper right here! When you see multiple posts with a new mystery issue there is no point chasing your tail and updating c++ and every other nook and cranny of your otherwise perfectly functioning PC. Roll back and cary on:)

I've started getting consistent crashes in 2016.09 today for no apparent reason. Don't think there's been any changes to my laptop recently. Both opening existing projects and creating a new project from my template. I then updated to 2016.11, reinstalled my quad capture driver, rebooted ... same result. My computer is always connected to the internet. VST scan seems to take longer than usual. How is everyone uninstalling the vsts? Using windows, or does ca2a have its own uninstaller?

Were you getting the same run time error R6025 - pure virtual function call? Did you try the safe mode and determine if it was caused by CA-2A or LP-64 EQ? Do you have a way of reverting back to 2016.09? Yesterday I uninstalled CA-2A with Control Panel and reinstalled it with Command Center and then it stopped crashing.

OK, this is kind of weird. I opened a project in safe mode, didn't load any instance of CA-2A and the project opened fine. Playback was OK, didn't try recording. Then to see if it really was CA-2A, I closed the project and reopened it normally. Still fine. Then I restarted Sonar and opened the project normally. Still OK! So at the moment (fingers crossed) I seem to be functional -- on 2016.11. Whereas yesterday I could not open a project or create a new one!

I see in another thread, Craig was speculating on Windows updates that aren't fully applied until a few more reboots. Maybe that's it, but I haven't seen any notifications or "restart required". Although who knows, maybe W10 doesn't always tell you when it's updating?

Hoping my current stability will last. Thanks for your input.

Aren't run time errors typically due to .NET Framework ?
Have you tried downloading it directly from Microsoft
https://www.microsoft.com/net/download/framework

That link is not for Win 10 versions. Win 10 comes with Net Framework 4.5. Won't the Win updates take care of that automatically?

that'll be a hard one to eliminate as it appears to be failry random

I have 2 machines with different hardware but identical DAW installation and win10 update level. One works fine with CA-2A, the other crashes the first time I insert CA-2A

Check what you have installed. this one is 4.6.1
theoretically it should, but I've had problems were updates didn't install properly.
they function but have corrupt files.

If the updates worked perfect there wouldn't be a separate download
Here is Windows 10 4.6.1:

separate installer downloads are made available for the huge swathe of enterprise PCs not using standard windows update, for example i regularly have to download standalone installers/updates for servers due to firewall restrictions, etc

Are you running the same or different sound and display drivers?

For me it's consistent and repeatable. But it only happens the first time I run SONAR after a reboot. After the first crash, it's fine.

Do you still see a difference between your 2 machines if you reboot both before making the comparison?
