SO - current desktop still working fine, but decided to go ahead and build a MONSTER.  I am just sharing this because I am SOOOOO stoked at the new build.  Everything is already ordered up and will arrive in a series of 5 deliveries over the next few days.

Then comes the build, and then comes the load, and then comes the OH YEAH.

Current Machine Specs:

  • AMD A10 7850k CPU, with built-in Radeon R7 graphics (with liquid CPU Cooler)
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 1000 Watt Power Supply - fully modular
  • Primary Drive: One 256 GB SATA III SSD (Windows 10 Pro x64)
  • Sample Drives: Two 2 TB SATA III 7,200 HDD's
  • Audio Drive: One 2 TB SATA III 7,200 HDD
  • Misc Data Drive: One 2 TB SATA III 7,200 HDD

NEW Desktop Specs:

  • AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950x (with liquid CPU cooler with 6 fans and 390 mm radiator)
  • 128 GB RAM
  • 1600 Watt Power Supply Fully Modular
  • Primary Drive: One 2 TB PCIe M.2 SSD (Windows 10 Pro x64)
  • Sample Drives: Two 2 TB SATA III SSD's (have two additional spares, loaded and kept stored externally as backups)
  • Audio Drive: One 4 TB SATA III 7,200 HDD (also have external 5 TB backup drive USB 3 just to backup audio projects)
  • Misc Data Drive: One 2 TB SATA III 7,200 HDD (have a spare in case of failure, same specs)
  • Video Card: GTX 1080 liquid cooled 8 GB RAM
I have a couple of additional backup drives, one acts as a periodically loaded clone of the primary drive, stored externally as backup, and the other is a periodically loaded backup of the misc data drive, stored externally as backup

Gonna have some fun, yup!

And there shall NOT be any song ever placed on this new computer, that is anywhere near the horrific bar-band cover set myself and many many others have endured.  NO Mustang Sally, NO Free Bird, NO Chicken Dance, NO Margaritaville, NO Sweet Child of Mine, NO Dead or Alive, NO Hunk a Hunk a Burning NOTHING!  Forbidden - Denied - Exorcised.

I promise to populate this new machine with music heavily weighted to Prog/Fusion kinds of tasty goodies.

  • 128 GB RAM

With 128GB RAM you can do some serious video editing.

I thought I would play around with doing some more advanced video editing than I had done in the past, and what's the point of HAVING the motherboard memory slots if they sit there empty and lonely and sad.  Now, through chain migration, there are 8 16 GB memory strips keeping each other warm and cozy.

Recognizing the heat output of all of the components, the case was chosen because of its room for dual radiator cooling systems, and there are MULTIPLE fans for which it also has all kinds of fan bays to choose from.  I even picked up a fan hub with 8 connectors for fans, to keep the number of wires/cables down in the case.

Here are links to the case (itself a monster, take a look at its specs), and to the motherboard (also a monster):

Wow - great specs.  You know how to build 'em!

When I went to Micro Center to pick up some of the parts where it required in-store purchase *saved $200 for the CPU abd it is a store full of all things glorious, I wandered past the TV section on the way back from going down the hall, and I noticed some really good prices on TV's that I don't need.  Well - I picked up a 65 inch TV for $698 - UHD 4K, so I might hook the new computer up to that and see if I can finally read stuff on my display.

The last component for the new PC just arrived an hour ago (the 2 TB M.2 PCIe solid-state drive - 3500 MBps), so later today, or late tonight, I may have to start pulling things out of boxes and get to work, putting this beast together.

This is the likely last time I will ever be able to pick up this level/cost for a computer, so I am going to thoroughly enjoy this build.

What motherboard did you pick Bob?
I take it the Threadripper needs a special, new board.
Your build registers on the "UFO" scale on UserBenchmark.

Are you going for huge templates by any chance?
