Hey Everyone! I'm brand new to the forum but not new to Cakewalk; I've had a copy of Cakewalk Music Creator 4 for a LONG time now, but recently got serious about recording. I purchased Fruity Loops 10 Fruity Edition and though I can't record with it, I have MC4; I've created some drum tracks with FL, and, as far as I know, to use them in MC4, I export the tracks as a wav or mp3 or midi... the midi isn't working for me, the mp3 sounds great but I can copy the track (back to back) to play for a long period of time. I can't combine three tracks I made because the program leaves a gap in between them, and the wave exports sound like CRAP! All I want to do is record guitars over my drum tracks, but it seems I am missing something... and I going about the process right in exporting the drums in FL 10 to wav/mp3 or, am I supposed to do something else? I've been searching for clues but nothing really makes sense to me. Thanks for your time! I feel that maybe MC4 is too outdated or something. Cullen

Welcome to the forum.
What do the FL clips sound like when played through Windows Media Player?
The 'gap' may be because you have the Snap-to settings set to measure, or half, or any other value that will cause it to paste where you don't want it. You can change the settings or just turn Snap off altogether.
You can also make drum loops in MC and record audio to them, no other program needed and it's all in the same box.

OOOH, I will have to check that setting (wherever that is lol). As for making drum loops in MC; I purchased Session Drummer 2.0 and it made my Cakewalk spaz out :/ As for FL clips, they sound just like they do on FL when played though Windows Media Player; The way they sound, as a wav, on MC is slow, choppy and delayed. Thanks for the suggestions! Hope you can help me further bro! -Cullen-

OK! So the snap grid being disabled work! Now I gotta work on getting my wav files to sound good!

What sound card and driver setting are you using on that computer?

Well, the output of the sound depends on if I'm using m-Audio or not... when I'm not using M-Audio, I get no output from my FL VST... but I think I was using WMD/KS or MME-32 bit while using M-Audio as my interface. I can't recall if ASIO worked or not :/

One thing I think I noticed... when you are recording drums on MC4, are you supposed to set up your drum loop on your VST, set up your audio/midi to record, start your drum vst and press record??? I was trying to do this yesterday, BUT, my FL vst in MC4 wouldn't produce any output :/

You should use the ASIO driver mode with an M-Audio sound card. Visit their web site to get the latest driver for your device and operating system.
You can record drums by recording a MIDI keyboard keyboard/controller as you play, which requires arming the track and clicking the record button, or entering notes with your mouse in either the Piane Roll view (PRV) or Staff view. You don't need to click the Arm for recording button or the Record button when manually entering notes.
You enter/record notes in a MIDI track; the output of that MIDI track should be set to your software synthesizer (FL VST).

OH... so, making tracks with FL before hand isn't the way to do it? So, use a midi track with FL VST as the output... let me try this out. Oh, I see you are from NC; I'm originally from Jacksonville NC :D Anywho, I might be PM you for more help. THANKS so much!

Jacksonville..... I lived there for a number of years.... as a Marine in the service in the early to mid 70's and then later after I got out I hung out and played with several bands there and gigged the base and the civilian clubs all the time. This was late 70's to early 80's then I moved to Wilson. Still in NC and Greg is about 30 miles from me. Are you still in NC?

That town has changed a lot in the past 30 years.

I have FL3 I think... I rarely use it.  I should play a bit with it to learn about it. If it exports waves or midi, there should be no reason they won't load and play correctly into MC4. Midi of course needs a synth...... but if you have the proper drivers (ASIO) for the interface, it should play them exactly like they sound in FL.

As far as questions..... it's probably better to post them openly here in the forum as opposed to PMing someone. That way, you can get the input of all the people here who might be able to help you solve or answer the issue.
