g,day can you give me some advice please.i have a roland jxsp synth, it has midi connections  but as i have no softerware [old yet great sounds] will i be able to get it used as acontroller ,as have not yet have midi leads would like to know if compatable or should i play it live if not.

MIDI is MIDI, that is, just data. If the connections work, you should be able to use it as a controller.

thanks greg,its a big heavy unit,do i just need the two midi leads in/out connected to my a/i roland quad capture. sorry about noob questions but one thing at a time

If you are saying you want to use your existing jxsp to trigger soft synths live.... you only need one cable going out from the jxsp to the DAW with the software. As long as the hardware synth (jxsp) has midi out, you can use it all day long as a midi controller. I use a Yamaha DX-27S for that purpose....and I do not like or use the DX27S internal sounds. 

This is actually how I have it set up in my studio. I do not return the midi to the hardware synth because I like the softsynth sounds sooooooo much better.

thanks again,will get midi leads and try various options snyth has midi in out and thru  i want to use some of the internal souds for example a patch called voices wich is hard to find,the midi thru is used for?

MIDI Thru is if you want to send the data to another synth.
