I was doing fine on a Fujitsu i3. I spilled water and now I have a mid tower i5. It is faster, but I could have lived longer with the i3 but for my clumsiness. My i5 is faster than anything but the new i7 according to a list I saw the other day. It really doesn't matter tho. It does the job well.

I'm sure you could get by with less, but you're not too far off in what you're willing to pay and this one http://mscgr.com/best-windows-recording-laptop-211414220 $849 @ Amazon

Sir William
My Toshiba i3 is fine for SPlat. Slow, but solid.

I'm using a laptop that is based on a CLEVO P150M and so far it has been a fantastic laptop.

There is a guy on here who I think uses CLEVO laptops as his starting point.

cheers

I have an older Lenovo i5 machine and it does well for on-site live recordings.  I move everything to my desktop for actual production after the recordings.

This is what I've been using for the past couple of years as my main rig. It's been a really solid. I paid $1,200 for it in March of 2013 (plus another $100 recently to upgrade from 12GB of RAM to 16GB).

ASUS N56V, Windows 8.1 64-bit, Intel Core i7 2.4GHz, 16GB RAM, 750 GB Hybrid HDD/SSD
