Hi Peeps,

I have just finished creating a new album over at my Bandcamp page called Culture Ships.

It contains six tracks weighing in at just over an hour. The "sound art," if you like (definitely not "music") contained on this album represent an excursion into the slightly darker side of ambient, compared to my previous release Oceanids. Much time was spent experimenting with Absynth 5 and a bunch of effects.

I'm not expecting much uptake of this release, to be honest, and, let's face it, I have already inflicted this stuff on your delicate ears over the last year or so. But I thought I'd SPAM the songs forum, you know, "just in case" anyone may be interested

cheers,

andy

Good luck with Andy, it's a huge amount of work to produce a whole album on your own. The title - is it an Iain M Banks reference?

Thanks, James, yes, the late and great Sci-Fi writer Iain M Banks Culture series is used as an "inspiration" for the track title names at least

I have a question - how much should I pay?

Hi Daryl,

Hmmm... Not sure... I pitched my other album, Oceanids at £6.00 only to find that Bandcamp whack VAT on it too, which wasn't clear at the start. I had asked before hand over at the ambient online forum about how much I should "charge" and $1.00 per track was the consensus. So I think I went in at slightly less than that.

And I have asked other peeps the same question, when their stuff is "name your price." If I like something enough, and I feel like I want to support an artist, then I will pay something around a fiver or even more, depending on the length (time) of the album.

To be honest, it isn't about the money. I always put my stuff up on SoundCloud for free download anyway, at first release, and in the last 12 months or so I have been uploading 24bit, 44.1kHz WAV files. Putting stuff onto Bandcamp was something I have been meaning to do for some time mainly because SoundCloud always seems to be in the news lately, about money problems, and I am hoping that Bandcamp would become a more permanent home in the future.

So, short answer is, you can, if you wish, enter £0 in the box and the download will be yours for free. What I am not sure about is whether you are listed as a "supporter," and whether that is important to you. So you may wish to enter a couple of quid, which would at least add it to your Bandcamp "collection."

Sorry for the long reply!

cheers

Brilliant - thanks mate.
Trying to tread a fine line between hurting feelings or grand gesture is a tricky one :)

Why don't you sell the songs by weight....should get more for 24 bit :)
