Now getting constant crashing using Sampletank 3

Sampletank 3 (ST3) has caused crashes on a sort of ad hoc basis in the past, but it is now crashing on a regular basis. I am using the VST 2 version, but the VST 3 version does the same.

Does it crash a fresh blank project with just ST3 inserted and nothing else?

no, as there is nothing playing. It's like the VST is not releasing memory threads or something, and Sonar then gets jammed.
