• SONAR
  • 2016.11 Worsens Problem Deleting Toontrack EZ Drummer

From the announcement for 2016.11:
  • Synth Handling Improvement (Auto-remove Synth on Delete)
This actually makes things worse for me.  With 2016.10, deletion of a track folder containing EZ Drummer 2 was fine but deleting the Instrument from the Synth Rack caused a crash -- 100% repeatable.  Now, deleting the folder from the Track View causes an immediate crash (also repeatable), presumably because of the new "improvement" for "auto-remove" of Synth.  I do not have this problem with Studio One or Reaper, or Sonar 8.5; plus, I have shared DMP files with Toontrack and they conclude the problem is not with EZ Drummer (insterestingly, EZ Mix and EZ Keys do not exhibit this behavior, at least in 2016.10 -- I didn't try them in 2016.11 because they'd never been a problem; perhaps after dinner  ).

Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.  I submitted a Fault Reporter when the problem first arose at the end of October, with several updates as I tried different things, but when I last checked a few days ago my FR had not yet been reviewed.

I realize I can just Archive EZD and hide the folder, but it would be nice if whatever glitch got introduced recently could be fixed.

Thanks,

is this repeatable from a new blank project? like, new project, insert ezd2, delete ezd2, crash?

Does it help to 'Disconnect' EZDrummer before removing it?

Yes, 100%.

Thanks for writing -- so I'm clear, what steps do you mean by "disconnect"?  I've confirmed this crash in three ways:  (1) Simply first deleting EZDrummer from the Synth Rach -- instant crash; (2) clicking on the EZD folder in the Track View (when a folder is used), the right-clicking and selecting "delete folder" (I'm then asked about deleting the tracks, say "yes") and with 2016.11 -- instant crash; with 2016.10 no crash, but 2016.11 has the new feature "Auto-Remove Synth on Delete"; and (3) inserting EZD without using a folder results in the same crash when once EZD leaves the Synth Rack.

If this gives you any ideas it's greatly appreciated.  In particular I'm curious about the "disconnect" option to see if there's something else to be done.  I could, of course, just Archive EZD and hide the folder but I'd prefer to try fixing this.

Thanks again,

To disconnect a synth:
  • if the synth rack is docked in the browser, click the synth in the synth rack, then click the menu at the top of the synth rack just right of "SYNTH RACK" in 2016.11 or on the Synth tab before 2016.11 and deselect "Synth Connected"
  • if the synth rack is in the Multidock or undocked, click the power button on the left side of the synth in the synth rack

Right-click the Synth tab in the Browser in 16.10 or in the separate Synth Rack in 16.11, and click 'Connected' to uncheck it. This unloads the plugin from RAM which might prevent whatever issue is causing the crash on removing it from the project.

can anyone else with ezd2 repro this? unfortunately i don't own it myself so can't test, but it should be immediately obvious for someone who does?
next question, is it just ezd2? or other VSTs?

Thank you for the help; I will try it out when I'm at home.  I really appreciate it.
