I have just tried with a new project and added and deleted EZDrummer 2 as many ways as I could think of and I could not get Sonar to crash.

Can you give me your step by step instructions on how to reproduce and I can try again.

Karhide:

Thanks for the offer.  And first I want to mention I tried the "disconnect" synth option and interestingly the first time I tried it, no crash.  But then I opened a new project, dragged EZD to the Track View and Sonar just hung.  I left it for 20 minutes just to see if it would resolve but I had to close the program.  Then, all later attempts to disconnect caused the same crash.

The steps are as follows (all confirmed repeated with new projects and old projects):

1.  Drag EZD from the Browser to the Track View
2.  In Synth options box choose either simple instrument track or not, and choose show synth view or not, and choose "midi out" or not (i.e., many different options tried).
3.  Either:
3A:  Click the track folder to highlight it, right-click to delete the folder and say yes to all tracks -- before 2016.11 there was no crash, but with auto-synth delete it crashes;
3B:  Delete EZD from the Synth rack with the tracks still there -- crash

100% repeatable.  Does not occur in Sonar 8.5, or Studio One.  Just odd.

Thanks,

Steve

What version of EZ Drummer?

What version of EZ Drummer?

EZ Drummer 2.  I mentioned it too briefly at the beginning of the thread and then forgot to note which version.  And here is something interesting I hadn't mentioned...

Last night I noticed that when I clicked on EZD in the Browser (but before dragging it into the TV) that the version number at the bottom of the browser (where it also says VST and some other info) was a prior version.  That's odd, I thought.  But I already knew that when I dragged EZD into the TV the most recent version of the plug-in was loading.

I went to the plug-in manager and saw in the properties that EZD was not pointing to the most recent .DLL file; odd, further, that the most recent version was loading by default anyway.  I fixed that and got the plug-in properties pointed to the current DLL file, and in the browser the correct version number shows up at the bottom.

That did not change the crash from occurring, however.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I have just tried that and I still don't have a crash on my system.

Here's the details of my install from the Toontrack Product Manager:

I'm not showing any available updates so I'm totally up to date on my system.  Are you running an older version of EZDrummer or maybe the 32bit version?  I rebuilt this system last January and I only have 64bit plugins installed.

Are your audio interface drivers up to date or do you have an alternate one to test with?

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Tim

Update:  After confirming the "crash" does not happen in Studio One or Reaper when removing EZ Drummer 2 from the track view, I again spoke with Toontrack who gave me the go-ahead to delete EZD from the system and reload it. I uninstalled, cleaned the registry, etc., and reinstalled.  Again, no problem with S1 or Reaper, but Sonar Platinum still crashes hard when I remove EZD from the track view or Synth Rack.

By all accounts this seems to be a Sonar problem.  Last time I checked my Fault Reports had not even been viewed after a couple of weeks (I know CW is busy, so it's generally OK), but now I don't recall how to check the status of the FR's.    I'm aware I can hide the track, archive, etc., but it would be nice to just have it work.  And I only noticed this problem starting with 2016.10.

I've installed the Early version of 2016.12 and the same problem exists.

Any idea are greatly appreciated.

Steve, I use EZD nightly, so I'll try removing it from one of my projects tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow what happened.

Steve,

As noted in my previous post yesterday, I tried duplicating your issue with EZD. I deleted the synth from the synth rack on a current project. No crash. However, something strange did happen. When I undid delete synth, the EZD synth came back, but it wasn't drums I was hearing when I hit play. It was a Zeta+2. Somehow EZD changed to the Zeta when I returned the EZD synth. I thought it was some sort of routing problem, but it wasn't. No idea how this could happen. I did replace the synth with EZD and everything worked as normal.

This doesn't really solve your problem, but I just wanted to tell there is definitely something going on. Maybe it's just our systems. I have been having some other issues lately, which I'll post in a new thread. I'll also try to duplicate your issue on a new project, not an existing one, to see if I get the same results.

Jeff:  Thanks for following up.  I don't think it's our respective computer systems -- this problem did not exist until recently and I've been with Platinum for a long while.  SOMETHING happened in the updates this Fall (I don't recall this occurring in the Summer updates).  I'm resigned to this not being a major problem for CW to focus on but it would be nice if they could investigate what is causing it, and on EZ Drummer, not EZ Keys or EZ Mix.

You have put a lot of time and effort in to creating threads and posts about this issue but did you report this in the problem reports forum ?
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Problem-Reports-f77.aspx

That's the place you might want to leave a detailed description.
Hoping someone from Cakewalk sees it here or sees one of your fault reports is simply a long shot.
I would leave as much detail as possible in the problem reports forum.
