My plan expires in January. I would be very happy to continue if the bakers could give me the option to record 'sound on sound' as default - it's the personal touch :)

My aren't we just the special one? "I'm not into making threats or anything but retooling your software so it conforms to my personal whims is the lynch pin that hangs a single yearly subscription in the balance." Yeah, I'm sure they'll stop everything and put their best 50 people on it right away. If you listen real hard, you can almost hear the memos to the development team being typed right now.

Yeah I'm picking on you a little bit but geez louise how frickin hard is it to make a template and load it on startup?

They already have. That's why there's a Normal template that will assume the defaults you want, and load automatically thereafter when you open a project.

Just because you drive a new car off the dealer's lot doesn't mean the default is you have to drive away from the dealer's every day. You own the car. You can drive it where you want.

Hey, when did the default change to Comping??? How come when I OPEN a midi file it defaults to Sound on sound???
I hate this and as said in another thread similar to this one I would like to see this option un changable once you set your preferances.
I always use Overwrite because why on earth would I want to keep a bad take?
And if I want to layer things up I want control and will add more tracks.
I see the benifits of Comping, great idea, but I can't progress past thinking in terms of a multi track tape machine so my world remains unchanged..
SOund on sound?? can't think of one situation that I could use it for other than making a mess of things :)
Try it with a bass track and see if it flys.

I still question why the Bakers feel that the default position should be 'Comping'.

Really? I would wager that it's much more common to record multiple takes of the same part than to layer different parts on the same track. I would make the same call on the default.

How do you know it's much more common? I have been a Cakewalk user from the early days and have never used comping once.

Just to be clear, using Comp Recording mode doesn't mean you have to comp together pieces of different takes. It just means that when you record a new take, you don't hear the previous ones, and the ultimate intent is to end up with one good take playing. Sound on Sound mode assumes you want to hear all takes playing together and doesn't automatically mute previous takes for you.

If you're always using Sound on Sound mode, I assume you're manually muting previous takes in the situation where others would use Comp Record mode to have it done automatically.

just wanted to highlight that so it does not get buried underneath the venting ...

there is no one size fits all. if there are already means to customize to your workflow, go and learn about it
