hello:

i have found an issue with my instance of sonar platinum (patched to current) running on win7-64 (also patched to current). key aftertouch and channel aftertouch do not remain checked after applying in edit > preferences > playback and recording and a program restart.

although each appears to save the value after applying, when sonar is closed and restarted the values appear unchecked again.

can anyone verify this is an issue for others? also, any thoughts on resolution?

thanks in advance,
j

If you open SONAR, do not open a project, and choose Edit > Preferences, both types of Aftertouch will be unchecked. Once you open a project, SONAR will assume the Preferences you specified the last time you clicked on Apply...at least that's the way it works here under Windows 10 with the latest Platinum.

you are correct, sir.

it seems to me that prefs are global rather than project-specific (or at least as that section appears to be), but i can work with that the way it is.

thanks for clarity.

Yes, prefs are global. As your perhaps-not-all-that-interesting factoid for today, most sequencers back in the day did not enable aftertouch as a default, especially poly aftertouch, because the amount of data tended to choke data streams. That's less of an issue these days with so many keyboards using USB instead of 5-pin DIN connectors.

But in general Sonar is forced to enable key aftertouch, since it has a bug which filter out unselected MIDI types from Control Surfaces as well. And one of the well known devices, Presonus Faderport, sends key aftertouch.
