  • How to Reset Plugin Browser Categories to Default?

I started using the new Plugin Browser, and inadvertently merged two categories into one. In addition some plugins became "Uncategorized".  Is there a way to restore the state of Plugin Browser categories to the original names/layout?   I'd like to start over again.

I looked through the e-zine and help files, but couldn't find a way to reset the layout.  I know the categories can be reassigned manually, but hoping for a simple and fast reset.

Thanks,

I'm wondering the same thing.

You can reset an individual category by clicking the drop down for the category and choosing "reset category"
You can rest all categories to factory defaults as follows:
Start SONAR by holding down the CTRL key and allow it to repersonalize.
This will backup your categories and start with a clean slate of factory assigned categories again.

Noel,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried the drop-down on the "Reverb" category and selected "reset category".  The "Reverb" category disappeared  in the browser and the reverb plug-ins went into the "Uncategorized" category.

I'll try the re-personalize option once I understand the possible side effects.

Sorry I may have been mistaken about the Reset Category option. I think it removes the "cakewalk supplied" category. In the case of VST3 plugins the plugin would go back to its manufacture supplied category if any. For VST2 its less useful since there is no manufacture category so it would reset to uncategorized.

The re-personalization option would restore the category database to the cakewalk factory settings which is probably what you want. The customization you made will be removed. A backup of the database is retained should you want to revert, in the "%APPDATA%\Roaming\Cakewalk\Library" folder.

Restoring the plug-in browser category database is what I wanted. I started SONAR with the re-personalization option, and the categories were restored as expected.

Thanks!

Since the upgrades to the browser I have found a lot of users having productive results by doing a re personalization.
I know I did it when the browser enhancements took place and I have not had one problem with plug ins.

Anyone know how to delete unwanted plugin categories from the drop down plugin assignment list? For example: Sonar comes pre-installed with a Dynamics category that I don't use, I would like to not see when assigning a plugin to a category.  Thanks.

Try opening up the plug in manager and deleting the category. just remember if there are plug ins in those cats, move them to a new place before deleting or you might not be able to see them.

Thanks for the advice but that won't work. I was referring to the categories in the drop down list that pops up when you right click a plugin within the browser.
