Anyone know how to delete unwanted plugin categories from the drop down plugin assignment list? For example: Sonar comes pre-installed with a Dynamics category that I don't use, I would like to not see when assigning a plugin to a category.  Thanks.

Try opening up the plug in manager and deleting the category. just remember if there are plug ins in those cats, move them to a new place before deleting or you might not be able to see them.

Thanks for the advice but that won't work. I was referring to the categories in the drop down list that pops up when you right click a plugin within the browser.

okay, did you at least give it a try.
Hey, I don't mind being wrong, im wrong all the time
But if you remove the category's in the plug in manager how are they going to show up in the right click context menu in the Browser ?

Yes sir I tried. The only categories that are visible/editable from the plugin manager are the ones that contain plugins, not all of the unused, factory installed categories.

If there are no plug-ins associated with a Category, the Category is not included in the drop down. The Category list comes from Library.db which contains approximately 800 default values added by Cakewalk and the plug-ins actually installed on the PC.

The easiest way to "hide" Categories is use them. Categories may be renamed in the Browser by right-clicking the Category name. Changing a Category name renames the entries the Library.db to the new Category removing the old Category from the drop down list. Be aware, should a plug-in predefined in Library.db get added later to SONAR, it will go into the new Category name. Of course, the plug-in may be re-Categorized but it may be confusing initially if the plug-in defaults to an unexpected Category.

The only other way I know to clean up the Category drop down is directly manipulate Library.db. This is doable but requires some skill with SQLite.

FWIW, it's a lot easier to edit a plugin layout using the plugin manager. I only use the plugin browser function to give plugins friendly names (so that the friendly names appear in FX bins), and do all other edits in the plugin manager (e.g. moving plugins to different folders, sorting folders, etc.). The layout edited in the plugin manager can be easily stored to a desired folder location.
