I would NEVER take a chance on screwing around with an update on a computer that is crippled in the middle of a project. I was just making an example for the guy that does not have the luxury of 2 or 3 machines or a reliable backup image.

Then that guy with one machine should wait until the update has been shown by most people to be stable. It's like the movies: I wait until the reviews are out before I go.

But, I beg to differ that a backup image is a luxury. It's a necessity if anyone uses a computer for anything serious. In this case, it's part of the price of admission for computer-based recording. I don't see a way around that, unless someone trusts mechanical devices that either spin at incredibly fast RPMs, or uses solid-state cells that die over time.

Technology can't be trusted, especially if it has a microprocessor inside. Two days ago I backed up my video drive and three days ago, imaged my C: drive. It's just part of the deal. And although not everyone has two computers, most musicians I know with a desktop have a laptop as well. Or at the very least, they've held on to the computer they had before getting their current one. It may not be a speed demon, but is probably good enough for testing. Those with a single computer often have only a laptop, which is a much more tenuous situation.

Point well taken, Chuck! I apologize if I came off as abrasive but this silent treatment from the Baker's is really starting to rub many of us the wrong way.

Cakewalk started a thread about instability with VSTs and last time I looked, it's still there. Keith Albright has come in here and commented on some issues as well. Hardly silent treatment...and an install being corrupted is not something you could expect them to comment on. They're not going to say anything if they don't have something to say.
