I want to apologize for both thread off-topic and Meldamoonieism, but while the subject of saturation is up, my favorite analog emulation saturation is the "Soft Saturation" in the free Meldaproduction MEqualizer.

Typical Vojtech to tuck it off in the corner of a free EQ plugin, but I tried it one evening and....wow. Really makes vocals and guitars pop.

I don't know whether my ears play tricks on me or not, but I've been using the console emulators in the final mix to achieve a little more separation. 'Warmer' settings for things like kick, bass, electric guitars and vocals, 'colder' settings for acoustic guitars, mandolins, snare, shakers, cymbals. It's very subtle and certainly subjective. I use it almost without fail on every track and usually most bus's. Just another aid in the fight for 'space' for me, but one that I'm finding effective, to my ears anyway. I rarely use any of the saturation tools in the pro channel.
