I'd open the projects one at a time and if there is audio in them Consolidate the audio into it's own backup folder Then Close Sonar and then delete both the project file and the Consolidated audio folder.

I would just delete them from Windows.

Sonar is nondestructive. Thus deleting from within Sonar will not delete any audio created with that project. One would need to delete the project folder to delete a project. BJ has it right.

delete the project folder from Windows and then... run a .bat file with the following line:

REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum\Recent File List" /f

however, this will delete ALL from the start screen.  You can go into this registry entry and pick and choose which ones you want to keep and/or get rid of!

I wrote and compiled an autohotkey script to edit the SONAR recent file list called Recent File Maintenance. Source and executable available from the SONAR Resources and Utilities post. It is also integrated into SONAR Launchpad on the same page.

To keep the number of scratch projects at a minimum, I mostly use a single project name for testing. Delete and recreate the project as needed.

I use CCleaner. one cleaning and all projects are gone from the Start menu.
This avoids playing with the Registry.

well look at it this way, you can "Pin" your favorites to the start menu.
The little circle next to the project name in start menu has options.

I use this for projects I work on continuous and/or more frequently.
I think the new feature (Start screen appears after closing project) is a huge time bonus.
Didn't know how helpful that would be till they added that in.

Mike, here is a bonus on how to keep things tidy and neat.

Best practices for organizing Project data
This varies a little bit  depending on if you use more Midi or Audio in your projects but it still apples to all users really.

1- Bounce all your audio clips (fragments of clips in the same track) using the "Bounce to clips" feature.
this will take your 600MB track and turn it in to a more consolidated 50MB's. Do this with all your Audio tracks.
And do the same with your midi tracks.

2- Once you have Bounced individual tracks save the project.
Now go to Utilities / Clean Audio folder. Run the Clean Audio folder tool to delete unused stray files that are simply wasting space.

3- Depending on the amount of Audio files in your project (Example: 25) your project folders will go from 1.5GB's to 400MB's. Not only that but all those little clips in your Project folder (all 800 of them) are now consolidated in to 25 neat Audio files making your Projects much more manageable and easier to read what each file actually is.
