I have always had trouble with paste destinations in Splat.  It has exhibited somewhat un-intuitive pasting behaviour....  Unless you open the paste special menu, a simple CNTRL V - even if the track is selected, would often send your copied information to a random track destination.   I even had customer support on the phone a year and a half ago and the rep really did not know what the problem was.

However todays experience has me very frustrated.  Trying to copy a simple measure of midi, like I've been doing for 10 years now, and sonar created a new midi track for every attempt at pasting, and no matter what I did, I could NOT get splat to paste a simple measure of midi into the same track?

Kontakt ->Scarbee mm bass - solo- dim (5 db).  Track was armed as I was building the take.  All of this is not unusual in my workflow and have NEVER had this many problems with it?   Ive searched all over for any kind of mistake I could be making, however have come up short.  Going to try a reboot.

Ive noticed - also - that many users on this forum have not done the current update as I am away from home as well.

I had to roll back to Splat 22.7 due to the problem you've encountered.  When copying material from one track to another, SPLAT 22.8 and later randomly puts the material on the wrong track.  It happens in both the event list and the staff view.   I've written to Noel Borthwick about the issue, but have not yet received a reply.  I've also filed a problem report.  When I posted a month or so ago about this issue, another person gave me the tip to roll back to 22.7, which I did, and the problem has not occurred since I did that.

From my experience and reading the documentation, a simple paste will always be applied to the "Current" or active track.  If the "Selected" track is not also the "Current" track, then the paste appears to be random, but I think you will find that the destination is actually the "Current" track.

As Jerry has mentioned, starting in SONAR 2016.08 the Destination Track option in Paste Special no longer functions unless your Destination Track happens to be the "Current" track.  Until this bug is fixed, Paste Special functions exactly like a simple Paste (Ctrl+V).

Hope this helps,

Excellent and lucid explanation of the exact bug.  with versions beyond 22.7, paste-special requires the track that material is being pasted to be the active, or current, track, defeating the purpose of having paste-special, as that is the exact limitation of normal paste.

I find "nudge" clip (or track) left-right-up-down a lot more effective and convenient than copy/paste special. When I need to copy/move clips long distances I change nudge settings to higher values in preferences.

Hi Dave ,

Yes , true that ...
The two times this happened to me  , the poof happened so fast I thought I had minimized SONAR and hadn't realized it ....
I guess the only thing I had going in my favor at the time was the project was only a little self made tutorial  I was trying a few things out within . Thankfully it did revert back to it's older saved state ...

all the best ,

Kenny
