Yeah, I know... Get over it...

I don't like win8 but was gifted a laptop with it and I'm managing...

But I keep thinking of upgrading to 8.1

What keeps stopping me are seeing so many warnings of the process...

Is the upgrade really that risky?

Is it worth the risk to overcome win8 issues?

I coukd really use some info and opinions here if anyone would care to share their thoughts...

Thanks!

Why not just wait for the release of the new version of Windows scheduled for this summer, which is supposed to be free if you upgrade within a year of the release. Then you can suffer through the agony of the upgrade only once. Of course you will need to upgrade to Win 8.1 in order to install Windows 10, but you can do it immediately prior to installing 10.

When I upgraded my box from 8 to 8.1 it was simple as a service pack ...

Keni, I was in a similar situation as you on upgrading from 8 to 8.1 for the simple fact that the onboard video drivers in Win 8 crashed my brand new machine. So, I was very reluctant to do the 8.1 install (especially after geting a stable Win 8 machine going with a dedicated video card), but after about 9 months of putting it off, I finally took the plunge.

Results were excelent and 8.1 seems to be much more stable......no issues for the past 16 months.

Same here...my upgrade from 8 to 8.1 was smooth....
Of course I cloned my drive before doing it...but didn't
need the clone...so all went well.

I installed a pre release version of 8.1 with no issues and updated 5 pcs after release. Everything went well for me. Pretty seamless upgrade and worth it for me.

Thanks guys...

For some reason the upgrade notices all give a lot of warnings and precautions...

With my limited web access right now, I might wait for 10, but we'll see...

I just want to say that the new insider preview of windows 10 is really great. Tho I wouldn't recommend installing it for you, this is coming this summer and I recommend it then.

Thanks Jarsve...

I looked through some articles about 10 and I'm feeling at this point I may as well wait for it...

I just dislike 8 so much! ;-)
