I have a simple question
 
When I used Cakewalk 9.0 (old version) long time ago,
there were a scrub tool button and step forward/backward buttons.
 
So, if I press the scrub tool button and drag mouse over notes in the staff window
I could listen the notes on which my mouse was located
 
Also, there were step forward and backword buttons,
so I can listen the notes successively by pressing those button.
 
But in the Sonar X version, those buttons don't exist
 
I read the users manual, and I found

Pressing 'J' and dragging, I can listen notes
and pressing Ctrl + right/left arrow, I can play notes successively
 
 
But I want to find buttons and menu items to scrub notes and to play successively forward/backward
 
Do Sonar X version have such buttons or menu items??

Using the TAB key will allow you to step forward by one note (in staff view / PRV).
Using Shift+TAB will go backwards one note (in staff view / PRV).
These 2 shortcuts also work on Audio clips as well by moving forward/backward to the next/previous transient. 
Im not sure you can use the Scrub tool (J) with only using shortcuts.

A lot has changed since the Pro Audio days. That was first DAW I learned on back in the late 90's early 2000's.
The learning curve is a bit extreme when jumping to Sonar. so if you are being productive, that's a plus.
In my opinion, the Piano Roll View has come light years compared to what it was in Pro audio 9.0.
I mostly specialize in Digital Audio. Most of my paying jobs comes from Conversation work.
I convert old 4 , 8 track/Multi-track cassette, 2, 4, 8 track/Multi-track Reel to reel to Digital. So people can import their Multi-tracks in to a DAW.
But I also write/record plenty of new projects Working in the 80% Audio, 20% Midi. Now back to Navigating.
 
Navigating in Sonar, there's a few other hidden gems that are not documented as some of the more frequent used ones.
For example:
You can use the CNTRL+ PAGE UP / CNTRL+ PAGE DOWN keys to move 1 beat on the Timeline.(1:01 /1:02,exc)
You can also use the CNTRL+SHIFT PAGE UP / CNTRL+SHIFT PAGE DOWN keys to move between Markers.
 
And when your ready to dive in to Keyboard shortcuts, open up Preferences in Sonar and there is a whole section dedicated to Shortcuts. Thus allowing you to create your own. For example, you can bind a set of key (what I used to do)
7- for REW and 9- for FF.
 
While the Transport is rolling, if you hit SHIFT+SPACE BAR the Nowtime will stop at that exact spot
(Vs. going back its original position.)
