  • Couple of questions regarding the Audient ID22 for my fellow sonar users.

Hi guys, I have recently been looking at upgrading some stuff in my home set up and have been looking at the SPL crimson and the audient id22 and I have a few questions if anyone can answer them it would be great.
Well first off I'm favouring the SPL crimson as it has midi in and out (currently I use the roland quad capture, maybe I could use that alongside the audient as my midi interface?)
Secondly the SPL has a dedicated mono button, I am going to get an avantone mixcube, (just one) for mono listening and with the spl I can switch to alternative monitor and then switch to mono, giving me proper mono listening on the avantone. I was wondering is this possible with the audient if I make use of one of the 'F' buttons?
And thirdly, The SPL has dedicated line inputs which bypass the preamps altogether, do the send and return inserts provide the same function on the Audient. Been looking this stuff up but would like to hear first hand from someone who might have used the audient as such.
The things like talk back and different headphone mixes are not a big deal to me. The big things are monitor controlling, ( flipping from my nearfields to the single avantone) and line inputs bypassing the internal preamps for using an external preamp. I'mm pretty sure it's ok to use the quad capture solely as a mid interface alongside the audient as my audio interface.
Thanks a mill,
Andrew

Hi. This might only add to the confusion, so I am sorry. But I would add the RME (only great experiences with them) Babyface.
Cannot speak on behalf on the AI you are searching, so sorry in advance (and do not know the price difference), but I wish you all the best.

You're going to find it very difficult using 2 different interfaces simultaneously. It doesn't usually work as you need to synchronise the clock in each one.

The ASIO spec provides for. Only one device at a time. Multiple devices from the same vendor can be used if the driver is written to mak that possible.

Hi Mudgel, Thanks for your reply, I wasn't actually clear about that in my post so sorry about that, but I don't intend to use the 2 interfaces at the same time. All my work is done as overdubs, so I wouldn't be recording midi and audio at the same time. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Thanks Zargg, I actually lokked at the RME babyface pro, the new one, it's a couple of hundred more and thats not putting me off? How do you find using the software to control things? Also I think the babyface only has one pair of outputs?

I believe you are right in that the Babyface only has two outs, but you can configure them in any physical way possible (to my mind / use), and the drivers are just amazing. The Totalmix (RME's UI) is growing on me, the more I use it I have only good things to say about RME. I can "max out" my pc, without driver issues at all.
I think you would be happy with it, as long as you "can survive" with only 2 analog out
Ps. I did not think about the AI after getting the RME (smooth sailing)...
All the best.

And you have ADAT in / out...

The big thing for me was the outputs and being able to quickly change to the avantone for mono listening pretty quick. If the babyface had better monitor controller capabilities it would be the one for me maybe.

Not clear on your full requirements but looking into similar issues for a small project mix station.
- inputs: DAW interface (audio/MIDI), CD player (references), user music player (iPhone, etc.)

- outputs: switching between nearfields, "computer" spkrs and a mixcube

Starting with a QC-4 and thinking the following monitor switcher made the most sense for this setup.
http://new-old-sound.com/products/20-mcone

Still confirming what's needed for a summing "wye" into the mixcube. Not sure a sub mono output was the same although claimed to be "full range".

Cheers man, Thats a handy little box alrite and would seem to do the Job, I'm thinking of upgrading the interface anyway thats why I'm looking at these 2 as they act as monitor controllers also.
