I read an article a while ago by a woman whose husband had died after an illness. They'd been married for 60 years or so and they realized at the end that they didn't know each other very well, being too wrapped up in their own interests.  So they tried to make up for it in the last few weeks of his life and they actually did get closer to each other, much closer than they'd ever been before.

Anyway, I wrote this song about that couple and maybe for some other people I know.

(I just noticed a couple of rough spots in the song, but I'm letting them pass for now.)

Well here we are   Near the end
Our journey's nearly done
I' ll never see you again
I'll be so alone

Just one minute more  That's all I ask
Before we  say good bye
We've got to make up  for  those years
Of leading separate lives

You went your way, I went mine
A disconnected pair
We didn't know each other well
But you were always there

My life was your life and that story's been told
My old friend  we have shared the same road

It was always you, and always me
So difficult was "We"
Living together for so long
Independently

As you fade away, away from me
I feel it in my heart
You were a vital part of me
I'm being torn apart

I looked at your face you gazed at me
You smiled and took my hand
You said... the road will never end,
Good Bye my old friend

What a lovely and yet somewhat sad song Bjorn

Thanks Andy. I like how the melody came out in this. One of my favorites.
Not so sure about the lyrics, or the subject for that matter. Not what most people experience I guess, but it's something I think about a lot.

Well, yeah, and the #death tag on SoundCloud is kind of giving us a heads up on the subject matter, but you tell it so well, in my opinion, and nothing lasts forever so, yeah, it's not such a bad topic really
