Exactly! That's what I'm doing.

If you already have Sonar, why you want to buy another Sonar?
Sonar Platinum runs on any hardware which runs actual Windows versions. And it does not consume much resources.
What will consume resources are plug-ins. And they will do this independent from the DAW they are running in, especially if the DAW is the same.
An example: Platinum with 5+ audio tracks works without problems on a computer which can run less then a half of Z3TA2 presets without glitches. If someone think that using "lightweight" Sonar can make heavy AD2 presets working on low end hardware with 64samples buffer, that is science fiction.

If you take one SoftSynth, in my case Truepiano, run in under Linux in a dedicated Linux host and compare usable latency with the same synth in X3 Pro running under Wine, on Centrino processor and 2GB RAM in total, then yes, there is a difference

I thought you could only run Sonar on a single pc, but I just read the license agreement which says up to two computers is allowed.

2 computers, yes! But can only run 1 at a time - Not simultaneously, unless they are different versions or someone else is using the 2nd one.

Per the End User License Agreement, your purchase of the software grants you the nonexclusive license to have one person use the software on one personal computer at a time. If you want to use the product on more than one personal computer at a time, or if you want to network the product, you must obtain separate licenses from Cakewalk.

If you have a second computer that you use on occasion, such as a personal laptop you use when away from your desktop, you may install the product on to the additional computer. You do not need to register the product again, simply use the same registration code tied to your account that has been generated for your unique serial number. Note that per the EULA, the software must only be running on one computer at a time unless you have purchased an additional license.

That would be my situation:(  I'm checking to see if Cakewalk will let me return HS or give me a credit.

They may or they may not. It's their call. If not, it wasn't that expensive to worry too much about, right?

The License Agreement is more strict then in practice. While "run 1 at a time" rule obviously apply, it was confirmed many times in this forum by CW (also was in some Q&A) that installing it on more than 2 computers is ok.

That was most critical argument for me when I have bought Sonar for the first time, I had music instruments in 2 different rooms (I had no place to put all together), "major" computer in yet another room, and a notebook. I was the only user, but I was looking for a DAW which allows me to do this. I am home hobby player, paying for several copies of the same software just because I had no place to put my instruments together was not acceptable for me.

Unfortunately, some plug-ins are not so friendly...

Well you can install Sonar until the cows come home, but you only get 2 computers to run AD2 on. Not sure how Melodyne works as I don't use it. But it is a great system we now have and I have CCC installed on 5 computers. I don't actually use Sonar on 2 of them as one is a backup DAW and one is our office computer. I just like to be able to open SONAR when helping on the forum. I only ever use my Main DAW and sometimes my Laptop to record live.

And this 2nd laptop here I only have Home Studio on for now and I have a plan for it.

I bought this version of Sonar the other day because I wanted to try it first hand. No other reason. What's $50 to a musician? I totally understand how my other versions can do the same and more. But I am curious to how this version will stand up for what I plan on doing which is using it live. I also will be using it sans audio interface at work to tweak backing tracks I use in my music programs here. It that time of year to dust off the Christmas midi files....

So far it's working 100% without a glitch. Few things are different but I have yet to have to read the manual.
I think this is a great version of Sonar for the money which is half the price of Artist. I could certainly use it to record an album of a live band. It's weakness is more the lack of soft synths than recording or editing features.

Unless they are dongle based (i.e. UAD Apollo/Satellite, Waves license on a USB stick, iLok2 based auth)
