I do not have any EUCON, but from documentation it should be possible to use EUCON daemon as Mackie translator. That means there will be some "MIDI Ports" which you can connect usual way, and so use MCU plug-in (or other).

What do you want to do with the control surface?  That is the main question.   Beyond volume  TRANSPORT, faders, pan solo and mute functions, Sonar does not well integrate out of the box.  Prochannel does not work well and you can't get control of modules other than then the first one in the chain./  Maybe they fixed stuff but do not think so.   If you only need basic automation  functions I mentioned above including transport, there are very good and MUCH cheaper alternatives.    None of the major control surface companies offer much for Sonar because they're implementation if non standard (Mackie for one).   I bought a used Tascam FW 1884 and use ONLY the control surface portion and ignore the interface. I got it for under 300 bucks!  It works perfect for the basic functions mentioned above but again there is no integration with Prochannel or deeper functioned.  (as mentioned, maybe Azlow's work is worth checking out but I just don;t have the time to see).  It does need FW though but was easy to set up once you realize u need to use the FW legacy driver.  It is fully touch sensitive and works perfect with Sonars automation writing unlike the cheap Behringer which is NOT touch sensitive and does NOT properly write Sonar automation curves or properly capture the fader movements.

azslow3: Thanks for your information. Currently I have a Mackie Control Universal. Does it make sense to use your plugin instead of the Cakewalk surface? What is the difference?

FYI I'm running W7, not 8.1, so there's another variable...

Ah ok, then the test is not necessary, cause I don't wanna go back, if there is no chance to run the Artist stuff under W8.1. I asked the Avid Support last week, but I got no answer.
Thank you.

It depends what you want from it and either you are ready to spend some time to make it work.

I do not have MCU and so I can not really test (my own) MCU preset.

The difference is comparable in size with the difference between digital multitrack recorder and a DAW. The first one is stable in what it can do, but in case some functionality is not implemented, you can not add it. With DAW you can do whatever you want, but it can take time to setup everything. AZ Controller is "a DAW" in "multitrack recorder" plug-ins world.

If for example you are interested in controlling ProChannel EQ or ACT, it make sense to give it a try. In case something is not yet working, I can fix that (since that is just a preset, you theoretically can fix/modify it even without my help). The price ($0) and the size (~400kB) are good

So, whats the latest verdict?
Does avid artist mix work with sonar platinum or not?
Anderton, do hou have a chance to try it out (win10)?

If volume faders, pan knobs, solo/mute and track/bus names showing on controller lcd works out of the box, its enough for me...

I know x touch is here now but artist mix seems smaller and slimmer size and it seems to have track/bus names on the lcd screens, that seems a nice bonus...

I relocated in May and am still setting up my studio, so it will take a while before I have an answer...sorry.

Here is a proof that the old model works with Sonar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxEhe3M3M2c
Even the prochannel seem to work
