Forgive my ignorance!  How do I find out which chip set is present?  System devices?

Go to Control Panel, System >Hardware > Device Manager.
Click on IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers and look at the brand mentioned

I also found this very old post from Noel, not sure if it still pertains though:

There is a useful system info tool that I was able to use to detect the firewire chipset on my laptop. Its called ASTRA32 and is a great tool that displays all kinds of sysinfo details that other tools don't display. Google it and you will find it. The IEEE-1384 information is listed under PCI-AGP Info.

The program IS still being maintained, and they give you a limited function version for free:

A couple of the fancier features are not available, like batch execution in DOS, and the ability to save reports in XML or as I think a text file, but you just want to see your chip set for the Fire Wire on your computer - so I think that would work fine for you.

Gentlemen!  Thanks!  OK, under IEEE 1394 Host controller: listed as vendor: JMicron Tech Corp.  Sub system vendor: DELL Computer Corp.  The driver is from Microsoft : 1394 OHCI Compliant Host controller.

So, it is not a TI based chip set.

If Sonar does not like this, then what is the next step?  Earlier on during this process, I had disabled this firewire port within the device manager, and was still NOT able to run SONAR Platinum!

did you try this ?

Hi - I saw you had posted earlier that you checked your device drivers for latest updates, BUT, in the video, they actually CHANGED the device drivers to use a different one.

I did not see anywhere that you posted having actually followed the above video.  Please watch it and follow the instructions there to see if that helps resolve this.

Bob, Chuck, Bristol_Jonesy, and others.
OK, here is the current status of my SPLAT install.  I laid low all this time since my last post, and private message exchange with Bob.  Then, yesterday I had notification to say SPLAT was updated, so I used CC and downloaded and installed the 'latest' update 2016.11 (22.11.0.111) and then clicked on the launch button in CC and held my breath.

Lo and Behold!  Platinum fired up JUST FINE and I was able to actually open one of my earlier projects and run the file!!  Mind boggling!  I don't know what happened, but it appears the folks at SONAR did something after all, right?  Kudos to them!

Grateful thanks to ALL of you who helped, especially the folks mentioned above.  Now, let's make some music!
