Hello Everyone,

Now that we have new low latency WDM and WASAPI drivers for Sonar... is it recommended to use them or is it best to stick with ASIO?  I am using a Steinberg UR22 audio interface.

Thank You,
Adam

i'd go with whichever one works/does the job the best, least issues, and does everything you need or want. i suspect most users will stay with asio, perhaps partly because that's where it's been at for ages and it's solid and proven

Unless there is a good reason not to I would stick with ASIO for now. This is a new development and it may take some time for the industry to provide proper drivers to use WASAPI.

Stick with ASIO for pro audio devices that have good ASIO drivers. They are the most tested by the manufacturers.
I think pro audio companies do minimal testing with WASAPI mode.

well, what i can say that when i tried WASAPI on my TC Electronic Konnekt 6
Sonar just refused to play (while when applying driver type change it found device compatible).

so i had to return to ASIO (that i have lots of dropouts while having maximum latency set).

I found in X1 that using the Roland WASAPI driver for an Edirol/Roland/Cakewalk UA-101 cured the bug where when using the ASIO driver loop recording resulted in each pass through the loop being shortened by the length of the audio buffer and the gap filled with silence so the first pass ended with e.g. 10ms silence, the second 20ms, the third 30ms and so on.

It also fixed the "zipper noise" bug which happened when changing the eq's frequencies or Q.

Performance was similar to ASIO, maybe a tiny bit worse but not enough that the extra latency was a problem.

Got a realtek onboard with W10 OS, so I'm very happy that the platinum 2016.11 release
has got support for low latency WASAPI Shared mode, yay!

If it's not to stupid to ask since I've never used WASAPI before, and just to be sure,
could someone confirm, that in order for WASAPI in any mode to work, that under
"Audio - Playback and Recording", "Share Drivers With Other Programs" must be unchecked...
Cheers...

Some will run ASIO better than WDM & WASAPI and a small amount will not.

Take all 3 out on a date and see which one you like the most, then stick with it.

I tried the WASAPI Shared mode and was having audio dropouts. I'll likely tinker more later to see where the issue is and if it can be fixed.

I find it strange that I'm able to play youtube and the keyboard vsti's at the same time using ASIO. I got the impression from the feature description that should not be possible. I guess I misunderstood.

I'm going to play around with it later today on my rig.  When I first played around with it, it looked like latency was a good bit less, but it seemed less stable with my interface.  I'll definitely report back what I find.
