Go ahead and try a loop back test before you jump ship on any driver. I put instructions on the thread linked below. Briefly, the top is a frozen audio track, in the middle is various other driver modes at the bottom is ASIO. Only the ASIO was on time.

At this point I'm still skeptical of WASAPI I doubt if it will perform as well as ASIO. Only for devices that have crummy drivers already will it be of any use,, At best it is an alternative to asio4all. As the man said, use ASIO supplied by your manufacture first. If that doesn't work, I'd personally shop for a better interface.

Got a realtek onboard with W10 OS, so I'm very happy that the platinum 2016.11 release
has got support for low latency WASAPI Shared mode, yay!

If it's not to stupid to ask since I've never used WASAPI before, and just to be sure,
could someone confirm, that in order for WASAPI in any mode to work, that under
"Audio - Playback and Recording", "Share Drivers With Other Programs" must be unchecked...
Cheers...

Its not necessary to uncheck it but its kind of irrelevant with WASAPI shared mode. All "share drivers with other programs" does is close the audio device when you switch focus to another app from SONAR. In WASAPI shared mode you may want to hear other apps at the same time so stopping audio from SONAR might not be what you want....

Thanks Noel for the quick response. Initially couldn't get it to work until I unchecked the share option, but I must of done something wrong procedurally (?) plus I got a dropout notification, but thereafter it worked with the share option being irrelevant.
One thing that was strange was when I switched back to MME for convenience to work on an existing project, on starting up Sonar Platinum 64 bit it reported that a whole bunch of iZotope plugs couldn't be found, tediously one at at a time, and crashed out. On restarting everything was fine!

Any idea what was going on?? By the way the Sonar exe shortcut I always use is set to "run as administrator"...
