  • Questions on using an Workstation keyboard with a instrument definition file

I'm curious how people use a workstation synth like Kronos and Instrument Definitions with Sonar.  I have a Korg Kronos and I've loaded the .ins file, and I can browse the programs fine.

However, I'm not sure what's the best workflow if I want to have 3 or 4 different tracks that use different sounds from the Kronos.  For example, if Track 1 is Program 102, Track 2 is Program 204, etc.  I can set them up easy enough but switching between them doesn't send a program change, so it's the last program sounding that I've manually selected.  So it's basically only useful for doing a single take, recording to audio, and then moving to the next program.

If I set up a combi or song ahead of time on the Kronos then I can have each Sonar track address the different MIDI ports on the Kronos, but that makes the .ins file useless.

Anyway this isn't a big problem but I'm just curious because people online seem to love having the .ins file, but I just don't see how it's particularly useful for multiple sounds.
