Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting good recorded sounds from TH3 please.
I can get great tones coming out of my speakers when playing, but the recorded sound is way too hot and so distorts.

I have set TH3 input as per onscreen instructions - i.e. turn interface up, guitar up and hit it hard until the guide is in the green area.

I have tried adjusting the th3 output but this removes much of the th3 tone.

I know i must be doing something very basic wrong - I just cant spot it.

any help would be greatly appreciated - thx
Colin

Hi. How do you record TH3? Using AUX track, Patch Point or inside FX bin?
Are you using ProChannel modules? Is it set to Post or Pre fader? Do they turn red when running signal through?
That is all I could think off now.
All the best.

Colin,

I asked this same question in a previous thread, but didn't get an answer.  When you set TH3 for the proper input level, it clips the input of the Sonar.  Basically the dry track is unusable for anything other than TH3 and when you turn down the input or output of TH3, it sounds weak.  This might be one for the guitar amp modeling guru Mr. Anderton to find a solution.

I tend to keep the input level down and disregard what TH3's input meter is saying. This allows me to record a dry track without clipping that can later be re-amped if necessary. Many of the TH3 presets are WAY too hot to begin with in my opinion, so I typically don't even use them...I'll build a setup from scratch. Then I'll typically turn down TH3's output just a smidge (usually the 1 or 2 o'clock position keeps everything in check).

I like the sounds I get out of TH3 even though I'm not driving it as hard AND turning down the gain, but if you need/want to have all that extra gain, I'd suggested sending your TH3 track to an Aux, and record the processed signal that way. You may still need to turn down the TH3 output a bit to ensure you aren't clipping the aux track, but that's one way to capture the tone you're seeking...you just won't be able to do anything with that dry track since it'll most likely be clipping.

First check your Roland Quad-Capture while playing, if it is not clipping the TH3 should be happy. There are many too hot presets on TH3 but if your direct sound is not clipping then simple adjustment of the input level of TH3 should solve it.

You should set up your max input level to -6 db. If your input gain is too high then you won't have any headroom and digital distortion will add up to TH3's distortion, that won't be pretty.

Sadly no joy! I have tried all of the options here and nothing works .
I guess its just like all the other amp sims really - it just cannot do clean sounds.
If anyone knows better I would be glad to hear from them.
thx

If you're looking mostly for clean sounds, you may find this article helpful.
