a year ago i toggled my computer to better optimization by going to regidit/hkey/?/? and deleting onboard soud card. once my cd went to the mastering phases, i could not use my sound forge any more as sound forge and cd architect had no audio because of the hkey- option i chose. so i was able to google it and go into the ini files and delete som files and poof i had back on board sound. now i am trying to remember where i stored the info to do this optimization of win 7 64 bit sp1 and can't find it.
does this hit home with anybody? does anyone do this and know what i am looking for?
whatever kind of fix this was allowed me to run so much more vst plugins with out the first core ever getting close to the top. this fix WAS NOT the same as just going to control panel and shutting off the on board sound, and it was NOT the same as doing it in the bios.
completely confused and looking for this old windows optimal sonar link...(at first i thought it was the sweetwater punch list for optimization but after running down it i see nothing about renaming hkey files...,

no longer have my Windows 7 (64bit) computers on the advised 'always full CPU power' setting, same for the BIOS.
reason is 1 computer fatally crashed/damaged from overheating.
(I had quite some dirt/dust in the ventilators/boards inside and that -in combination with the always full power setting- overheated/damaged the computer.

Depends on the specs of your computer / load of your Sonar projects ofcourse.....but I would be careful here...
In the performance section in the control bar I see there's plenty power left in my projects/computer.

About a year ago or so, Craig Anderton posted a tip he had discovered, which was (if I recall correctly) to disable the HD audio driver that is often installed with new monitors.  He said that he was then able to load more plugins and there were a few other related benefits.  Was that it?
