  • [SOLVED] Mix down hangs and doesn't complete

Hello all and a Happy Thanksgiving to all (even those who don't observe it),

I have a mixdown issue.

I use "Bounce to tracks" and the mix goes nowhere (The "mixing down audio" bar in the Control view is not moving.

I'm running Sonar Plat on a Windows 8.1 machine with plenty of ram and hard drive space.

I've been mixing steadily with many different projects since May 2016 and this is my first mix issue.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Ray (aka Oluon)

(Note: I have deleted all the aux tracks.)

This is the first project that I've used aux tracks on (3 aux tracks - (not aux buses)) and now the mixdown meter in the control bar ("Mixing down audio") doesn't show any progress, even after about a 5 minute wait.

I'm guessing that it is an aux track issue, because if I try to mix down the tracks which are actually feeding the aux track (but not the aux track itself), I get an immediate mixdown result.

Any help appreciated.

I deleted all my Aux tracks, but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas?

My project is dead in the water until I can solve this :-(

I would try disabling all effects plugins first, and try a mix down.  If still no love, start disabling VSTs one by one.  When you find a culprit and get a mix down that works, start to enable all of the effects and VSTs that work, and start again.  I have also noticed that SPLAT sometimes gets upset if using 32bit and 64bit plugins together.

Have you tried the "Export" function as a test to see if Mix down of audio is working ?
Everyone does it different, however, I personally (When im complete with a project and ready to "Mix it down" per say),
use the File/Export command.

^^^ listen to Chuck - try exporting rather than bouncing

Also if using fast bounce try not using it. Use the master buss as source as long as all audio goes through it. If the real time bounce works it could be due to a plugin that doesn't like fast bounce.

Hi all,

Thanks for the input.
I think I may have found a cause, or THE cause.

I noticed that if I had a track with automation, some of the tracks had the automation lane showing a bar going out to ??? infinity???

I found a post by chuckebaby (I think) that advised one to select the actual project, in the time line at the top and then to select the tracks to be mixed.
This did the trick, but I still have a project that appears to be hours (if not months, years) long.
I don't know if this will affect the actual size of my project in the hard drive, because there are no files in that space beyond the actual song.

I'll look for that post and post it here, asap.

Thanks again for helping me.

It's all good Ray,
Here's what you want to do-

- Go to Edit / Select all
- Place the Timeline cursor at the Start of where you want your project to Start
- Got to Edit / From here
- Place the Timeline cursor at the End of where you want your project to End
- Got to Edit / To here
- Then Export.

The From here / To here functions set the In / Out points of your final mix.
But don't touch anything after you select all or these In / Out points, along with your selected Tracks will get screwed up.
So just do like I told you in the instructions above and you will be on your way to flying perfect paper airplanes.

Thanks, C,

I had followed the directions from the original post and I was flying those airplanes in no time flat - but having your instructions here in this post is even better.

I'm debating with myself, re: starting another post about the automation into eternity problem.

That's your call my man. (the automation issue)
Give it a whirl and I will see what I can do to help you with that as well.
