Hi
I am using Music creator 6 and studio instruments. I have imported a drum audio loop into MC from Studio instruments for verses. I want to  to imprt another drum part but I am getting this message:
"Direct Show Error (0x80040265).Cannot playback file. The format is not supported"? What is this message. How do I get rid of it.
I tried to email CW tech support but no answer..
Also, is there a way to import customized drum part /sections for a chorus or bridge, instead of using an already looped audio recorded part from studio instruments? I am looking for a more modern rock type chorus or new countrysound type chorus drum part? can I alter recorded drum part in Studio instruments?
If I cant do it with studio instruments then can someone recommend something that has this function..perhaps fruity loops?

Thanks

can you give the specs on the computer, operating system, and sound card you are using as well as details on how you set up the tracks to get sound?

Audio loops are pretty much a case of you got what you hear. If you import midi loops, you should be able to use PRV or Staff to edit them as you wish.

I use JamstixIII for drums as well as a few other synths. I have really never used, beyond testing, the SI stuff that came with MC6..... Sound Center is the exception.

direct show errors usually point to files which are not supported by cake.  what type of "drum audio loops" are these?

and, no, there's not a way to customize the audio loop drums with the tools you have in MC.  you'd need meldoyne polyphonic DNA for that.

a better solution is like GH says, use SI DRUMS (triggered by MIDI loops) or get jamxtix or EZ DRummer for that.

Hi
Thank you for the repsonse and suggestions!
I am using Windows 7 Intel CORE I3 /HP laptop. 64 bit OP system.
The MAUDIO "FAST TRACK PREAMP in to the system soundcard. I set the track s up for a guitar or mic as :

TRACK SETUP
IN-CAEKWALK SOUNDCENTER 1/PRIMARY OUTPUT LEFT or RIGHT
OUT-MAUDIO USB ASIO Analog 1/2 fast track

THE Studio instruments drum input track is
IN OMNI
OUT-MAUDIO USB ASIO Analog 1/2 fast track

Preferences-
Playback device--MAUDIO USB ASIO Analog 1/2 fast track
Recording device MAUDIO USB ASIO Analog  Line in 1 fast track

The crazy thing is it actaull allowed me at one time import on e of the drum sequences/part into MC, but now it comes up with that Direct show error message? I will see what happens with the midi loops. The thing is in my opinion its tough dropping in drum parts without an actual kit in front of you. So I am triguring drum pieces ie(kick-snare-cymbals-toms etc..with mouse)
I will check out what you were saying about JAMSTIXIII.

Thanks

Thanks for the response

They are the drum audio sequence loops/parts premade in CW Studio Instruments

Like I was saying with GH, it allowed me to import for the verses at one time, now it coms up with the direct show error?
Its tough to create from scrach drum part without a kit in front of you, so I ma at this point doing it by "mouse".
I even think with a mdi controller drums are dificult to program..I will try the midi way though.
I will aslo check out EZ Drummer.

much appreciated

but you don't import those into the project, you play them in the Studio Instruments' interface using MIDI to trigger them.  that's why you're getting a direct show error - the format is not a cakewalk project audio file loop format - it's a proprietary format for Studio Instruments.

I don't know, Reece.
The SI drum patterns are straightforward MIDI loops.
They will play properly through SI, Session Drummer, EZ Drummer, or any other drum synth mapped to GM. However, they must be dragged from the SI interface to a MIDI track.
I can see Drect Show coming into play with A DXi, but I believe SI is a VST.
Does Direct affect those as well?

TL1673, instead of inserting SI Drums as a Simple Instrument track, insert it selecting MIDI Source Track, and First Synth Audio Output.
This will give you two tracks associated with SI Drums.
Your Sound Center track appears to be the Synth Audio Track, but may not have an associated MIDI source track.
Your SI Drums track is set up as a Simple Instrument track. I don't really like these, because you can't see how the signal is being routed.
You should be able to drag the MIDI patterns(loops) from SI Drums to a MIDI track at will.
You can mix and match the loops, or enter drum notes in the PRV, or play the drums via a MIDI Controller for variation.
Also, the notes you trigger with your mouse will not record. This triggers the synth directly, but does not record the notes to your MIDI track, which is essential for playback.

Bob - this is what I was basing my statements on.  he said he IMPORTED AUDIO LOOPS from Studio Instruments.

if he's importing the audio samples used by SI then that would certainly cause a direct show error since those samples are not used by any of the cakewalk formats (such as wave, mp3, wma, etc).

if he's importing MIDI loops, there would be no reason that cake/windows would display a direct show error.  Direct Show has nothing to do with MIDI.
