Hi - can anyone assist - just upgraded to Windows 10 and use above plus Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 II generation interface and having dropout and Sonar freeze problems whenever I try to input on any or a specific track - driving me crazy!! it allows me to do about 4 bars or so and then freezes can't save anything just only exit program - have checked everything - I should mention playback is never an issue as that seems fine on older projects but since trying to do a new song, been a nightmare! My processor is 1.65 and have 4 gigs RAM ( was told would be enough) am not so sure - I have latency on max (via Asio) but still no joy. Apart from using the software am not that techno so can anyone help me with a solution as finding the inability to compose very frustrating!!! Any suggestions welcome. Do you think I should increase RAM for example? Cheers!

Probably not a memory problem. Check Focusrite website for the newest driver. You might also try WASAPI instead of ASIO.

also im not sure maxing out your latency slider is helping, I would back it off a little bit.
when you say "Input to a track", you mean Record ?

Make sure your Focusrite 214 is NOT plugged in to a USB 3 port.
it has to be in a USB 2 port. don't get me wrong, it will work, but it will freak out like you are seeing now.
I would do as bit suggest, re install the driver.

-Uninstall the Scarlett driver
-Shut down PC
-Restart PC
-Reinstall the driver
-Plug the Scarlet in to the same port you are using to install the driver too.
(don't keep using a different port).

Its worth noting, I know Sonar 8.5 worked but Sonar 8 itself ? its not supported by Windows 10.
then again either was Sonar 8.5. You might try downloading the Sonar Platinum Demo and see if that works any better.

I can second that.
I recently got a Gen2 Scarlett 2i4 to use with my laptop.
In the USB3 ports it freezes, drops out and generally misbehaves.
In the USB2 ports it generally works fine.

Spent 2 days trying to fix things with Focusrite....they don't like PCs much, it seems ....the 4.14 driver just about fixed everything - got mine as beta...

Have tried all suggestions given but sadly to no avail - it seems to be ok when I input ( I use note for note method) on my drum track but on all other midi tracks it allows just a few bars before freezing Sonar or dropouts and I have to close it without being able to save. I did add another 2 gigs ram and tried WASAPI - which distorted everything so went back to ASIO which plays back fine, also the port is fine.  I reduced latency back down to 256  also. I am now besides myself as I don't what else to do?

Have you tried phoning Focusrite?
Their support is very good.

This can also be a very simple reason:
Use a shorter USB-cable or an other better and shorter USB-cable. (And no USB-Hub).
Try an other USB-Port.
In many cases the cable was the cause.

Like Chuckebaby, i'm betting it's a compatibility issue with the OS.
You're running an old program on a relatively-low powered PC with a new OS on it.  At least 1 of those components will need upgrading, I think.

Make sure you have the latest patch for Sonar 8 (or 8.5, whichever you have).

Try a different USB2 port.
