I always loved this song, and this is a great version that does it justice.

Aren't those Indignus Blue Street Horns great? Within hours of downloading then I had a part for my latest project.

Me too. This trumpet part was thrown in the same day I got the beta version of the library. Kind of an awkward fit, but I just had to use it in something. Now I pretty much look for an excuse to put trumpets into everything.

I've done a write-up on Blue Street Brass for the next SoundBytes, which will be out next week. I'm a big fan of Indiginus stuff generally but BSB may well be Tracy's most impressive library yet. I am working in the Low Ensemble instrument into an orchestral piece today.

If I thought 5am, no coffee would yield these kinds of results; well you get it!
Dave that was outstanding!
Oh, and if I've never mentioned it, Sleepwalk is great as well, you're working that library very well.

My original comment was a bit dry perhaps, but the intent was on the humorous side. After all what self-respecting musician can even get up @5am when it's much more typical to stay up until 5am. :-)

Similar situation came up discussing the nuances of LV production with someone who spent years working with Leonard Cohen, who sounds like every song was tracked @5am. The issues were pitch control vs. timbre vs. performance mindset.

Dave,
I just got around to listening to this.  Been a long time since i've gotten to listen to one of your tunes (and first time for a vocal).
I'm IMPRESSED!  Yes, the Joe Cocker reference is accurate.  Loved it.
So it's 5 AM and no coffee for you on vocal take days???
Don't worry. You can have a cup afterwards..

As for the Blues Street Brass, I read your review today (and saw another reference of it from you recently here).
My wife and I have been doing some music study on old jazz.  One of the main figures is Louis Armstrong.  After listening to him play coronet (and seeing your review) I think I'll be getting the VST.
I'm convinced.

Hey, Bit,

FANTASTIC job on this excellent, very soulful cover of one of the all time classics!

All the instruments are well played, the vocals are pure dynamite, and the mix sounds pro all the way, full, clean and fresh sounding.

By the way, "Sleepwalk" that comes up next on your SC channel is also spectacular.  I love the crisp, clean guitar melodies and harmony parts dancing over that fat, warm B3, and the sax and synth solos are to die for!

Great stuff, Bit, it's always great to hear something from you in the Songs Forum!

Have a good one, buddy!

alas, I'm old enough to remember this song from when it was still on the radio Hard to understand why anyone, especially a guitar player, wouldn't want to do this. There's tons of great guitar stuff going on in the original. Anyway, this is a great version of a classic tune and a personal favorite of mine. Your vocal is awesome but, really, everything about the tune is outstanding Excellent!

If anybody cares, I've uploaded a remix based on the recommendations you've all helpfully offered. It's mostly a Vocals-Up mix.

Another suggestion was bringing up the drums, but rather than do that, I added parallel distortion to make them cut through better. They are now clearer in the mix, even though levels were not changed (lowered the dry signal to compensate for the added distorted path). My longtime favorite plugin for drum distortion is Devastor from D16 Group, which can be as nasty or polite as you want.
