  • Incorporating RX5 as Wave Editor

I have been unsuccessful in using Izotope RX5 as a wave editor within Sonar.

I have followed the official Sonar procedure for incorporating wave editors into the Sonar Tools menu (last updated in 2010, which provides instructions on editing the registry), and I have checked "share drivers with other programs" in the audio > playback and recording options. I have also reviewed all other threads here that I have been able to find. However, when invoking RX5 from within Sonar, RX5 indicates and error that it has no access to the audio driver. This behavior is the same whether or not "share drivers with other programs" is checked. I have made sure that RX5 is in focus, and I am using ASIO drivers.

My questions are:

1) has anyone gotten this to work? If so, how?

2) Would using the "RX Connect" VST work better?

thanks

Keith

I think as of RX4, using "RX Connect" is the preferred method.

The problem you are having is with shared audio drivers.  Some audio drivers/sound cards are more flexible than others for that.  If you can't get RX to share the ASIO driver with Sonar, you might want to try setting RX to use the WDM driver.  Sometimes that can share with Sonar and you don't really need low latency in RX.  It all depends on your sound card and driver.  I've had lots of luck sharing with my very old Focusrite Saffire, but other cards/drivers will be hit or miss.

I'd also recommend using the tool Cactus Music points out.  With RX as a wave editor you need to specify the RegionFlag to off, otherwise you get this silly error every time it starts up.

regionflag is a DWORD set to 0x00000000. Is this off?

RX Connect is the way to use it with Sonar or any other compatible DAW.

Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll give RX Connect a try. However, I queried Izotope about how to use RX Connect within Sonar about a week ago, and they replied that RX Connect is not supported for Sonar and directed me to the Cakewalk procedure for adding wave editors to the Sonar tools menu.

Again, though, I'll give it a try.

Keith, in the statement below from the iZotope site it's clear for me that this is the way to use RX as a wave editor in any compatible DAW. I only use the VSTs but look at this thread, specially #14 e #15:

RX Connect

Integrate a quick workflow between your DAW/NLE and RX Audio Editor to utilize all the repair/enhancement modules needed to cleanup production audio.  For Pro Tools RX Connect now supports clip-by-clip and handles which preserves the boundaries of clips, so you can conform to future picture changes with ease, making RX Audio Editor a natural extension of Pro Tools.  RX Monitor enables you to monitor your audio from the RX Audio Editor application through your host application (i.e. Pro Tools, which does not allow other applications to use their hardware simultaneously).

Using the RX Monitor along with the Share Drivers with other programs option unchecked is how I got it to work. Though I haven't figured out how to get it to render the audio back to SONAR yet.

I'm with superdan...... I get RX5 to open OK from the tools menu, and/or by using the RX Connect but have not yet figured out how to get a rendered file back into the SONAR track.  (Have not spent a lot of time with it either).  One of these days......
