LOVE having the "Exclusive Solo" option...."Exclusive Record" would be amazing, though.  Although I DO record bands and ensembles on occasion....I'm recording ONE THING (voice or instrument) 90% of the time.  As I add guitar tracks, or have the vocalist do multiple stacks, I have to DISABLE record on each track as we do it, and ENABLE record on the next track.  "Exclusive Record" would greatly speed up stacking tracks, or tracking multiple parts as one instrumentalist.

Thoughts?

Hi. I agree. Great idea. Make a feature request, and I'll vote.
All the best.

probably one of the more frequent things I do as well. while their at it, why not link the input echo button with the exclusive record as well. im sure you guys know what I mean.

Another great feature is "Solo Override".

If you click on the record indicator button in the control module (can't think what it's called), it will un-arm (?) any tracks that were set to record.

Then you just need to arm the track you want to record to.

The same goes for solo and mute.

HTH, and I have not misunderstood the problem.

It's still at least 2 clicks - more if you want to engage input echo on the newly armed track.

A one click solution would be heaps better.

A lot of suggestions seem fairly specific to what one person wants, but this is pretty clever and universal. I'm in.

But I want to add yet another "fairly specific" wish (I do not see anything one user specific in previous posts... but since Craig think so... )

I guess many "home users" have limited number of analog and MIDI inputs. And so I wish the third "mode" for Exclusive Record Arm (in addition to On and Off): Input Exclusive Record Arm.

Except for doubling VSTi, it make no big sense to record the same input on more than 1 track. At the same time different inputs to different tracks can be desired. F.e. I have my DP and 2x audio interface. For my n00b needs I sometimes record Mic input with DP (MIDI) in parallel (or Mic with Guitar in parallel). What I have never done so far is recording (the same) Mic into 2 (or more) tracks in parallel. I mean I would prefer to replace "Non exclusive record Arm" (how it currently works) with "Input exclusive". And have "Absolute exclusive" in addition.

Well... I know how to make it work that way without Sonar modification

Many of us are gumbies by nature and having to remember that you have a track set to record in a sea of strips is often beyond us. It is sometimes asking too much for us to look up here to see first if the "something is record armed" light is on, with the penalty for not doing so is to spray audio where it is not intended.

Just FYI - I didn't mean in this thread, but in general.
