Hi everybody,
at the beginning of this week a power failure took down my computer. I was ugly and it didn't want to start up, but I've recovered for the most part but there are some things that are still not working (Cortana claims interests aren't available and Edge keeps telling me "Hmm, we can't reach that site." even though IE 11 can still get out to any website (Really, Microsoft? I've researched the sh#t outta this and there a Alotta people who are in the same boat and can't bring it back to life. With so much browser competition out there, you'd think they would be all over that) but I digress.
Sonar works but there were a couple of Plugins that suffered a couple of glitches. My Slate Virtual Rack, couldn't find the Ilok license at first (fixed now) and Addictive Drums is refusing to work (says my trial period is over) and I'm sure I could work with the Bakers to bring that back.
So, I've been restoring this all week and it's been fun but the weekend is here and I have a project to finish so I'm wondering if I could shortcut this whole process and wanted to ask the wonderfully kind and knowledgeable Cakewalk community here a question. I have a disk duplicator that I use to backups with, but, I haven't used it for a couple of months. (I know, I should know better, and this has taught me to be more vigilant) I can take out the C drive and swap out it with the one that's a couple of months old and bring back everything to full working order.
I'll get Cortana and Edge back and Addictive drums will be there but Platinum isn't gonna be current.
Two questions
Will I be able to bring it back up to speed and, two, do I have to apply the monthly updates sequentially using Command Center or should I go to My Account and apply the older updates first and then use Command Center for the last update?

the updates for sonar are accumulative, so you only need the latest
 
sounds like a bummer, i remember way back maybe the windows 98 days, that if i ever had the computer go down due to a power outage things just would never be the same, so i'd nuke it and start again, i quickly learned to get a ups to save it from happening again, nowadays i have regular backup images which gives a bit more piece of mind

The Sonar updates are cumulative. That is, the most recent update includes all the new data from previous updates. Just install the most recent one.

I remember when I had a power outage in my apartment, I can't remember if it was last year, all I know is my computer wouldn't turn on afterwards. For 9 days it was without power. The solution? There's a silver coin-shaped battery in my machine, I think it's a back-up battery. It sort of looks like a watch battery. What the tech support guy at PC Audio Labs told me is when a power outage happens that leaves my computer without power, I should open it up and take out this back-up battery, and let it sit for at least an hour to cool down. Then put it back in, and the machine will be up and running again!

Not s solution to the current dilemma, but for future, invest in a UPS battery backup power supply.  When you lose power it will kick right in, there is also software that will allow your PC to shut down safely when you lose power.

I've suffered power outages before but I could just shut down, remove power for and hour and it would boot back up. I guess there was a disk write going on when, we lost power and, BAM.
Anyway, I've switched over to the backed up drive now and it's just like I shut down for a couple of months and turned it back on.
This was clearly my fault for not keeping up with the backups. I was mostly wondering about how the updates work. I know it's been said that, if you don't keep up with paying for the updates, you keep what you paid for, but lose out on the ones you haven't and that's not a concern for me cuz I've invested in the lifetime updates but how does the updates know since they are cumulative? Maybe I'm not understanding how they work. So if someone who doesn't have lifetime let their membership lapse, then came back, say, 6 mos later, they would receive all the updates since they were out?

I once had a PC wiped out by a power outage that started by ten or more on/offs over a couple of seconds, presumably with associated big voltage spikes.

Took out the psu and motherboard.

You already know the answer - UPS. And make sure its a good one, some cheap ones lack the capacity to provide enough power long enough to safely and reliably shut down a high-powered PC - Windows can take a minute or more to save everything and do a proper shut-down.

And when you've got it, check everything works as it should by connecting it up, setting it up to shut-down on power failure then killing the power at the mains.

Or, as an alternative, use a laptop.

You must absolutely have a UPS for your computer system if you don't want to risk losing it. APC is a good brand. Also, even with a UPS, you still want to unplug devices from wall outlets during any severe storms because one stray lighting strike can still take out your gear.
