I'd much rather see them produce modern, up to date versions of these products from scratch. As for Beatscape being the best REX player out there, well I think Geist probably overtook it on that front many years ago.

Seems to me that elements of Project 5 could be incorporated into the new DAW. But again, it's something that has been overtaken many times over by such programs as Ableton Live and Bitwig.

Beatscape came with Sonar, no additional purchase necessary.

I`d rather they spent time improving what is already there and fixing the many long standing bugs.

So says the Staff View crowd.

No, don't go backwards move forward.

Sharke Correct they were probably good programs but nothing compared to what we have now.

Let's stop being geriatrics and live in the now the past is the past.

Arturia and Korg be damned.

I don't see no conflict between licensing existing products vs. making modern versions of these products. There might be a market for old tech if the price is right. I don't expect them to push Project 5 at the original sales price, but if there is sufficient sales of it ... maybe it could give an indication whether there is a market for a modernized version ?I would say it's a fairly low risk and cost project to put it in shop when it eventually opens.

Serious_Noize!
I don't want to live in the past. One of the reasons I stuck with Cakewalk and moved to Sonar was the fact that they seemed to always fill a need that I didn't know I needed at some time or another until later.

But I will say this. It would be nice to see Cakewalk by BandLab add a functionality to where you could change the daw itself where it has not only just a RETRO LOOK : OR THEME, but also a RETRO functionality also. Or that is "Select Music Creator 4 and your Daw looks and works just like MC4 but has everything Sonar has to offer, same with Project 5 which I know there are a lot of people I have chatted with in the past who love that version, although I have never used it.

Sometimes, it's not just the look of a daw that matters but the functionality, and if Cakewalk By Bandlab could add those previous daws options on the click of a button that would be something really spectacular for previous users of older Cakewalk products. Is it doable? Probably not, because it would require some serious coding and registry changes for certain characteristics I imagine. But it would be a nice feature. A Time machine of sorts for those who might like to remember the good old days.

BUT : It would be possible to create a theme where those options were there I suspect, with more options and the controls and shortcut keys works as such. Maybe?

I dunno...... I'm just throwing some idea's out there. I am not a programmer or script person. I do write .bat files and they make me BATTY SOMETIMES!

Either way, Functionality of any daw is key to the success or failure of it. And the option to change appearances where it functions like an older daw or something else would be AWESOME!

Reaper kind of does that, it has the themes thing, but in the end you are responsible for making a multitude of changes to make it work like some other daw and in the end in my experience WORKING WITH THE REAPER DAW it just doesn't DO THAT! Regardless of user created settings and such, it ends up being a burden trying to CREATE so many things with REAPER. And that's one reason I have stuck with Cakewalk/Cakewalk by BandLab.

Although, a cakewalk option to make the functionality THEMES look and work like say MC4/MC7/PROJECT 5 and such perhaps would be a good thing........

Oh well, apologies for the hypothetical BS, I'm just thinking and typing out loud here.

But then again, think about it, rather than THEMES, about about selecting say "PROJECT 5" as a View with Sonar, or MC2/3/4/5/6/7 Or whatever previous cakewalk version and have Cakewalk SONAR by Bandlab function as such". That would really be something spectacular would it not?

Anyway, like I said I was just typing and day dreaming and thinking out loud here.

Thank you BandLab for keeping those dreams alive!

Cakewalk already did that. For example, we now have 'Matrix view' on Sonar.

Nice try, but half baked!!!

Funny, but Bitwig has adopted some UI elements that Project5 had...

I loved Project 5!  I can still use P5 ver 2 on my Windows 10 64 bit computer but it is hampered a lot by being only 32-bit so I really can't do much with it since almost all my plugins are 64 bit.  If they could just make P5 ver 2 64-bit it would be a whole new ball game!

I agree. Get realistic. Use Cakewalk by BandLab or move on. Why would they put money in old DAWs when the best - Cakewalk by BandLab is free?
I'm hoping to see some upgrades or offers for Cakewalk plugins. I'd like to get Z3TA+ 2, Rapture Pro, Dimension Pro, etc.

1. Beatscape - still the best REX player out there but only 32 bit.
2. Project 5 - never really used it but it was cool looking.

Me too. Agreed with posts that both products were under supported/developed. Cake abandoned Cyclone (which I preferred more than Beatscape), then came out with Beatscape, and abandoned it. They did not have a good track record for sustained development, or implementing a vision. IMO, Comparing P5 (from 2005) to something like Ableton Live or Bitwig in their current versions is a bit unfair. P5 would absolutely have to be updated/modernized. It was amazing for its time though, and could be again, especially for much of the market that Bandlab is trying to attract. I would love to see a VSTi version of P5 (64 bit) a la FL Studio. Dump the step sequencer and mod matrix from Cakewalk, move them to P5 and market it as a Standalone, VSTi and Rewire Instrument to all DAW owners.

beatscape was ****! the prime example of half-baked

This.  The sounds it came with were decent for the time but it really was a big fail. slow, awkward workflow.  Geist craps on it.  The fact hat this was  Renee project that never was popular, odds are slim it will be ressurected.  I would rather they include whatever functionality you liked in a new product with modern featiures.
